Default Adjustable- Body Shocks & Adjusting Ride Height

How do you adjust ride height with an adjustable body coilover. Do you adjust it form the spring perch, or the shock body? I imagine you screw the lower shock body up or down on the threads? If that is true then why have an adjustable spring perch in addition?

How do I set ride height when installing for the first time? What is my reference?

Respect (for anyone who knows what the hell I'm asking )

If you can move the entire shock body up and down, I would recommend you do adjust the height that way so you don't have to mess with the preload and also not lose susp travel.
