Well it's hard to say by just looking at the wheel dimensions.

Wheel manufactures never list the inner diameter which is what materials right now. Offsets always have a variety to choose from and I'm not afraid of that.

The only way we'll know if someone has tried it or knows the exact dimensions of the STOPTECH 14" kit and the inner diameter of the wheel.

I'm about to print out the STOPTECH template for the 14" kit and go to my bodyshop and see if it will fit in my 17" 5Zigen FN01R-C.

I hope we can track this down. I'd really like to know. I'm going to do some mad searching.

Haha, I'm going hardcore on this topic e-mailing everyone and calling everyone.

I contacted Jeff Ritter at STOPTECH, while I did not find out any information on the wheels, I did however get good information on the concerns about the brake cooling since the vanes are so close to the wheel. 2mm is the minimum recommended clearance by STOPTECH, therefore brake cooling is not much of an issue with this setup.

I also received an e-mail back from Dave Zeckhausen of Zeckhausen Racing that is extremely helpful...

For example, the winter wheels on my 540i 6-speed are Borbet Type E, which clear Brembo and StopTech 14" brakes. SSR Competition tends to have lots of clearance. And HRE can make custom wheels that clear. Perhaps even iForged can do the same.

The Gram Lights 57C and 57S look like they might work. The SSR Comp-H might clear. Possibly the SSR GT7.

I have a set of 5Zigen GN+ 17x8.5 +48mm here: No matter what size spacer you put on it the inner diameter of the wheel is smaller then the height of the caliper.

I have a set of Enkei RP03 17x8.5 +30mm: Same thing...

What I am looking to do for a set of track wheels is 18x10 wheels up front, 17x11.5 wheels in the back...

My current wheels are 18x9.5 18x10.5 Enkei NT03+M

I have been told the SSR comp in 17" don't even fit the stock brembo brakes (not confirmed).

the 5zigen GN+ is heavier and has less clearance than the FN01RC

FN01RC with spacers would be my best bet... 17x10 +25 and 17x9 +35

5zigen typhoon has awesome offset at 1790 +15, might be an interesting choice too.

I have the stoptech template printed out too, but wheel templates are not available. The stoptech calipers are pretty tall...definitely looks taller than the rotora's.

It seems like the best thing to do is go to a wheel shop, and test-fit a bunch of 17" wheels. I don't know if America's Tire Co., Les Schab, or Big O carry the kind of wheels I'm looking for (Kosei K-1, 5Zigen, Enkei, etc...), but I'll give them a try.

the Stock Brebmo's dont clear on the center hub of the wheel...

it doesnt clear the hub mount plate diameter of the wheel... the front pad height and wheel diameter will clear... its the center line of the wheel that doesnt...

You're welcome to test fit my 17X9.5 ssr comps if you're ever in the bay area.
18's aren't the end of the world. They will probably come down in price eventually since everyone is moving towards them now. I remember when 17's were outrageously priced. (Now they're small).
Also, you will have less sidewall flex with the 18's. If you're going to be using RA-1's than yes they do cost quite a bit more, but they last so long to begin with. I'm still on my first set and I've owned the car about a year now and track at least one weekend a month. The extra 400 is a year is peanuts considering all else you will be spending.

I checked with DiscountTireDirect's competitor and they were not much help and was even a dick about running low offsets on the 350Z. There are many people running low offsets on here.

I e-mailed DiscountTireDirect with the template and they will have their wheel guy check for us. Hopefully this will give us some answers.

I didn't realize they lasted that long! I was under the impression that they would be spend after a half a dozen events. That's good to know, and it certainly makes the extra 400 seem negligible. I believe the only RA-1's available for the Z would be the 275/35/18, which are pretty much in line with your 275/40/17. What front offset did you use to stuff that 275 tire up front?

Yeah but if you are tracking, the weight savings of a 17" wheel would be nice. Even though the extra cost is "peanuts" it's still saving money. Not to mention the wider range of choices. Kuhmo, ADVAN, Toyo, Hoosier. More sizing options also for 17".

I just sent 5Zigen the 14" brake template. I'll send other companies the template soon and see if we can find out anything.

Quick Reply: Is there a 17" wheel that can go over 14" stoptechs?
