Default Tokico D-Spec vs Tanabe S-OC

I raced a modifed RX-8 and almost lost. The reason why was because we were at high speeds and my G35 couldnt handle the curves too well, where as his car was hugging the street like a monster! If my car was able to handle better, I would have embarassed that RX-8 and it would have never dared to mess with a G again! I dont track my car. Its a daily driven car, so I dont want to sacrifice all my comfort. I have 20s and a molded front lip, so I want to stay at stock height. I'm going to get Stillen sways, and GT-spec front and rear lower tie bars.

Staying at stock height, should I get Tanabe S-OC coilovers, or should I get Tokico D-spec shocks with OEM S-tuned springs?

OEM S-tuned springs will still lower your car. Putting 350Z springs on a G35 will drop it a half inch, I think, and the S-tuned springs have an additional .8" drop.

It might be a tiny drop, but its reasonably small, enough were I should still be able to manage. I used to drive a slammed car before. I can drive it around fine, but I'm sick and tired of angling everything. I dont think the OEM G35 Sport Tuned springs drop that much, but if they do, it should still be ok.

You're suspension isn't the reason you lost. it's the 20's!!! Going from stock to 19 slowed down my car alot... i can only imagine what 20's will do. I stuck with lightweight Volk 18's. Also, being at stock height with 20's, wouldn't that make your car high enough to cross rivers?

Oh yea, also be careful where you "race." Any mountain area in So Cal, like GMR, Angelus Crest or Chevy Chase canyon will have cops on patrol... not to mention loose debris cluttered everywhere.

Well, I'm not really suggesting he should do anything, just pointing out that s-tune springs will still lower his car 1.2 inches. It's pretty hard to say "these will make you stick to the road" because we don't know what your problem was. Were you oversteering? Understeering? Too much body roll? Just slapping some coilovers or new dampers on your car isn't necessarily going to fix your problem.

Well, I went from stock 19s to 20s. The overall size of the wheels and tires were about the same diameter. The weight and size of wheels only matter during a launch, and we were already at cruzing speeds on a wide open freeway in the middle of the night. I wasnt canyon racing, it would have been a joke if I was. My car is currently a non sport-tuned suspension G35, which rides like a boat.

You'd think being at stock hieght with 20's would make my car look like an SUV, but it doesnt. It fills the wheel well, and my bodykit brings the visual bodylines alot lower to the ground.

1.2 inches? I dont think we're on the same page. I was talking about the factory G35 Sport Tuned Suspension springs. My problem was that there was ALOT of body roll, and thats why I'm getting the sways. My current non sport tuned suspension feels so plush and "floaty", that my car was just going to fall on its side! I'm getting the Stillen sways and GT-spec LTBs, but I was just debating on what route I wanted to go for a slightly stiffer, less "floaty" ride. I hear great things about the Tanabe S-OC's, but I havent heard too much about the Tokico D-specs. People talk about them over in the G35 forums, but alot of those guys are newbs, and think that anything that isnt stock is great.

So does anyone have any opinions about the D-spec/Sport tuned springs setup?

Oh, ok, my mistake. I didn't realise there was an S-tune set for the G35 as well. As far as a floaty feeling, it's probabally a combination of your springs and dampers tuned to suit the light spring rates. I don't know if the S-OC's have adjustable damping but that'll help quite a bit with getting rid of some of that bounce. I haven't heard anyone complain about the d-specs around here, I plan on getting a set myself. If I were you, I'd probabally go with the S-tunes and D-specs, because those coilovers are going to have a severe impact on your ride quality as well

So oem G35 S-tuned springs are fine with Tokico D-specs? Someone told me that they were meant for lowered springs, but it seems like most people use them with their stock springs.

Nope. I changed my setup a little. I have 6000k HID low beams, and 6000k HID foglights.
