Default I need help from the suspension gurus

My current set-up: 05 Roadster with Stock shocks/Whiteline springs(don't think it's available outside Oz). On smooth roads and tracks, it's an excellent setup. Other than that it's been a nuisance. Ride over bumps is harsh; I frequently hit my head on the roof because it throws me off my seat. It's too low; 1.2-1.5 inch drop. I scrape the underbody almost at every ramp and speed bumps (I have an APS TT kit so it might be scraping some of the piping).

I track my car every 6-8 weeks so it's primarily a street car but I want to be able to stiffen up the suspension for the track.

So I'm looking for something that I can adjust to 'Soft' for the street and have it as or more comfortable than stock. But also have the ability to dial up 'Hard' for those days at the track.

So here's the question: If I look for a linear spring with similar/lower spring rates than stock and match it up with adjustable shocks, will I achieve what I want.

If this is the case I'm leaning towards the Tokico D-Spec shocks matched with RS-R springs.

What do you guys think?

i'm not a suspension guru, but i did some research into this stuff a while back. tein's EDFC for their coilovers allows you to stiffen/soften the ride electronically from the cabin. you might want to look into thatin combination with tein flex, ss or cs... it does get pretty pricey but i've read good things about it

Yeah I had a look at those but the spring rates that come with those coilovers are too high for my liking i think. I've had Tein suspension before on another car and even though they had 16 (can't remember the exact number) levels of adjustment, they range really was hard to harder to hardest. Great for the track or smooth roads but Aussie roads are crap to say the least.

what did you think of the stock spring rates? if you want quicker turn in, less body roll and pitch, then higher rate springs would help you achieve that.

oh, and if you lower your ride height without increasing your spring rate, you'll hit your bumpstops more often. i bet that's what's happening with you right now.

adjustable damping just varies the speed at which your wheel moves but at steady state it's the spring rate that'll determine the balance of your car.

if you can raise your ride height without changing anything else, i'd suggest that. if not, my suggestion would be to get slightly higher spring rates and adjustable damping. the softer damping will help for around town comfort, then turn it up for the track days.

just so you know where i'm coming from, i installed koni single adjustables on my miata last summer and used the stock springs. i did a track day like that and still had a ton of body roll. the car was more stable with the new shocks but i was still disappointed at the turn in and body roll. so i was considering putting 30% higher rate springs on it, but it also lowers the car and miata's have limited rear travel, so people complain about hitting the bumpstops when lower it.
