Front BBK going into turns
I was going to get a wilwood 6 piston front kit 14inch for the z and then just put good pads on the rear. Im concerned about brake bias. If i come into a turn too fast, and im braking into the turn, am i going to have a disaster on my hands. thanks DO you think i need a rear kit, i have searched but alot of the time the question was asked but a good answer was not reached. people drag it off topic.
well, you're supposed to do most of your stopping /braking in a straight line as much as possible.. slow in, fast out... if you brake too much while turning, you might unsettle the car, and the braking would be the least of your worries..
the majority of the braking will be the front, since the majority of the weight is transfered to the front... most kits on the market (i.e. Stoptech) keep the brake bias in mind when designing the kit... i dont you really need to worry about having a rear kit or not.

it all makes sense, i dont get what you meant here, ur saying ill be fine without a rear kit. I know i want to brake b4 the turn but sometimes mistakes are made on the track and u need to ride the brakes longer than you would hope.

when you start getting into trail braking... i know my 12.9" rear stop tech kit gave me some more control... there was less dive while braking so the rear end didnt kick as easly... but it may have been the tires... :-/
Good thread. I have always wondered...for me, I am getting it for safety/looks. I don't really track the car so I don't really care if it matters on the track; I simply want bigger brakes to make me feel "safe" on the street.

Big brake kits won't do anything for you on the street.

In our testing for development of brake kits, we do something called a J turn test. We turn the car into a constant radius turn, and then slam on the brakes. When the car comes to a rest, we measure the distances the front and rear axle deviate from the line. If the front distance is longer than the rear, then the car is front biased. If the rear deviated further than the front, then the car is rear biased.
Not all companies make correctly biased brakes. We do it through platform specific piston sizing. Other companies take whatever caliper laying around that is closest, make a bracket and hat, and call it a big brake kit.
If a kit is designed properly, you can just get the front. If it isn't, which many times it is, you have to get front and rear. At which point, you might be dealing with other issues, like longer pedal travel.
Not all companies make correctly biased brakes. We do it through platform specific piston sizing. Other companies take whatever caliper laying around that is closest, make a bracket and hat, and call it a big brake kit.

Its true they will only stop you about 8 feet shorter than a set of stock brakes, however on the street i get my stocks to fade so its not compleatly true. Id say if you are stopin from over 120-130 you will notice shorter stopping. IMO

better to ask.... what are you not doing at the hpde events? Not intended to be mean. ur simpily not driving hard or fast enough. I drive hard i used to race carts, i brake late and hard. I find it impossible that you dont fade, or even warp your stock brakes, I do two or three 110-75, and then 1 130-60 and my stocks are rendered ineffective. I usualy pick a brake point after a few laps to get used to it, then i stick to it, i hit my point and i am 100 percent on the brakes then i ease back on the gas, you probably use your brakes conservitivly thats all.
