Quote of the day. Piston area looks the same size as my AP 6 pot calipers.

Screw that...I'll just buy the Porsche carbon ceramics and make them fit my car...somehow.

OEM's like Porsche and Ferrari develop advanced materials for brakes and the aftermarket tries to see how many pistons they can fit into a caliper and charge an arm and a leg for it. Ironic.

Isn't six enough, at what point do you really need a 12 piston caliper.

Brakes are like wheels were a few years big, the bigger the more bragging rights.

Just as an example, the Endless 6 piston Racing caliper (their full size) uses pads that are 310 x 168 x 77.7, the 12 piston uses pads that are 336 x 158 x 99.6, so the 12's are a fair bit bigger

The rotors on the 12 pot are huge compared to the already huge 6 pot ones

Overkill? Absolutely. The reason they offer it? Simple - Status, and marketing, pure and simple. The mere prescence of such a high end part, tends to help bring attention (media and public) to the rest of the product line.

Yeah kinda like how car companies have their "halo" car (NSX, Skyline, etc.) it is overkill but they do look oh so sweet.

Adam, what size are the rotors on the 12 piston kit?

I mean, I have a 363mm kit and I cant run anything smaller then an 18" wheel. What would these monsters require???

I'll look it up for you - I have the dimensions at the shop - they are HUGE!!! Absolutely would need 19's or bigger based on caliper size alone!

my bad, wrong chart

the 12 pot uses a 4 pad setup - pad length is 90mm, height is 49mm

6 pot uses conventional 2 pad setup - 138.3mm long x 61mm tall

All these would do is allow you longer periods of time to change brake pads. Yet, I bet a set of brake pads for these would cost $500 per Axile!
Probably more! The Stop Tech 6 piston pads are 500 per set I beleive (someone correct me if wrong, Chebosto?) so Im sure these are more! They are purdy though...

I doubt Stoptech pads are $500 for an axle... Replacement AP pads (for their 6 piston calipers) are $200/axle...
