Default Painted calipers yellow on black touring

Well I painted my calipers yellow today. The guys that had done it said it was time consuming, and they weren't joking. I basically spent an entire day prepping and painting. It's all done and it looks good. I will do a whole write up about the joys of painting a light color onto metal later, and what I noticed, and learned. Lets just say where the guys said 2-3 coats for red was what it took. It took me about 4-5 coats to get yellow looking good and even. The car is still up on jack stands, and it's dark out, so these pictures SUCK. The flash way overexposed. I figured something was better than nothing until tomrrow. I'll have some good pics of the calipers with regular light, and then with the wheels back on the car. Until then, 2 of the front, and one of the rear.

lol, I like how the 3rd shot I accidentally drug a pic onto it but didn't notice. I wondered where that pic went when I drag and dropped it, whoops

They are mounted. I didn't have time to take pics before coming to work tonight. It's so different, and it's all I see when I look at the car. It looks good...I think. I am kind of weird, I don't get excited or upset, I'm to analytical, lol. I should know in a day or two if I am happy with the result. I'll post pics on Friday.

Default yellow calipers, preliminary photos

It is really overcast today, hopefully the sun comes out later so I can get some more pics. Setting my digital camera on the ground was the only way I could get a close up without it being really blurry. I am loving the yellow the more I look at it. Someone actually complimented on the car and said they liked the brakes on the way home from work this morning. I like the fact that people know it's my Z, if nothing else.

So here we go, part 2 of 3 of yellow caliper pics. Full sunlight pics to follow later today.

How did you get your car on jack stands??? I want to change my own oil, and I have jack stands and a shop jack, but I don't know how to do it on this car without risking putting the jack up through the bottom of the car. Do you have special equipment, or do you know where the car can take the pressure?

I did it along the edge running right along the edge of each side. It looks thin, but supported it fine for 24 hours. I lifted it in the middle of the sides with a floor jack so I could put 2 stands in at a time. I would not reccomend trying to lift one corner at a time as when I did that it made the car a bit unsteady.

The finish and color looks really good but the calipers look a little small compared to the wheel and brake.

Nice job, it was time well spent. What paint do you used? Post the details and you experience.

I had thought that might be an issue to be honest. I can say seeing them in person they look plenty big, and you know critical you usually are on your own car. The yellow I think makes them look a little bigger, an illusion so to speak. When I get better wheel positioning and more sunlight, I'll take those other pictures so you can see.

I'll post a full guide when I post those other pictures, to tired right now, it will be incoherent I used the same paint everyone else has used, G2 caliper paint from tirerack.com, $38.

You can see my window tint I just had done this morning here also. 35% on the sides, 20% on the rear. Looks great, car is dirty as hell though.

Didn't think I would like it from the title of the thread. But I think it looks very good, pretty subtle.

Great job.

looks good. one opinion...change the front reflectors to white. the yellow on the calipers clashes with the orange of the reflector. i think it would look awesome with white reflectors.

heh, they are hopefully going to come in the mail today One step ahead of you The orange definitely doesn't look right, plus the white will match the rear corners, never really considered the smoked ones for that reason.

Question caliper paint

Did you consider painting the calipers the same color as the Bembros on the track........my Z should be here next week and am going to have the BO seats installed aftermarket....the orange caliper color of the Bembros appears close to the seat color........just curious
