Default I want to lower my Z. Should i get springs or coilovers?

Hi,

I would appreciate some advise. I'm looking to lower my car without sacrificing the ride quality. The reason is because the road quaility in my area is really bad, lots of bumbs and pot holes. My priority are as follows (most important to least important);

1) Lower ride height
2) Ride quality as similar to stock or better.
3) Performance similar to stock or better.

I'm not looking to make an extreme low ride, just to cover the gap between the fender to the 19'' wheels i'm planning to buy.

Given the above, do you guys recommend just changing the springs? I've read that changing springs alone makes the ride more bumpy because the aftermarket springs does not match the oem shock. Is that true?

Or should i go with some comfort orientated coilovers like HKS LS+? Will the ride be better than changing the springs alone?

Thanks in advance.

Rgds

P.

LS+ is NOT a comfort coilover in spring rate or in valving(valving specs are posted on the HKS site in Japan).

For what your want you should be looking at coilovers that have spring rates that are at 8Kg or lower

HKS LS (no+)
Tein CS
Bilstein PSS9
HKS RS

I think the Bilstein PSS9's would be your best bet if you want comfort, not to mention a lifetime warranty.

I don't know of too many coilovers that would provide ride comfort. For your case, I would just get springs such as Tein S. tech or Hotchkis.

If there are lots of bumps and potholes, you might want to stay away from lowering springs (and 19s for that matter). I just moved to a new area yesterday where the roads are pretty bad...It killed my dreams of lowering my car until I move.

You could also use a blow torch or a hacksaw

Hi,

Thanks for all the feedback.

With regards to the HKS LS+, i checked with one of the vendors website and they mentioned that spring rates were F: 8kg/mm R:6kg/mm. HKS mentioned in their homepage the LS+ is suppose to be their luxury sports model, something like the Tein CS(i know the Tein has a lower spring rate F: 7kg/mm R:7 kg/mm)

If i compared the LS+ with the HKS RS, the RS has higher spring rate, F:8kg/mm R:8kg/mm, the LS+ should more comfortable versus the RS on the street. Or did i miss something?

Thanks

P.

Are you really a prince? I will meet the royal Brunei family soon.

The Hotchkiss package is very similar to stock except the body roll is gone.

LS+ for North America is actually the CPV35 LS+, we don't get the Z33 LS+.
Viewing HKS's Japan web site show's that the vendor site you visted is incorrect, that setup uses 8Kg/8Kg spring rates. Since the RS is not listed on the HKS Japaneese site, it's within reason that the RS may actually be the Z33 LS+, though I have zero to back that up. In either case, looking at actual valving spec for BOTH LS+ products, they are NOT like Tein CS. HKS LS without the + is that product, even though it also uses 8Kg/8Kg spring rates for the Z33 fitment. CPV35 and V35 LS does use 8Kg/6Kg spring rates.

So, LS+ no matter what version, is not like Tein CS in spring rate or valving.

Hi Prince,

Also consider Tein Super Street (slightly different model to CS), I think you will find the spring rates reasonable and closer to stock at 7/7 if i'm not mistaken. This model is not available in the US, but we get here in Asia.

Good luck!
