Question Is a BBK a must for rims??

I dont plan on adding any extra HP that would warrent getting a BBK but I want to get Volk GT-S rims or the nismo rims..It seems everyone with these has some sort of BBK on..

My question is, would it be tacky or frowned upon to get these rims with the stock 06 brakes?? Thanks a ton guys!!

Since you're not in elementary school, why worry what "everyone" else thinks?

Big brake kits are not cheap and are made for track use.

no, they are not necessary. BBK's are extremely expensive. many times they cost more than the wheels.

Get some new rotors and some caliper paint if you are that worried about what everyone else thinks. While a BBK really sets off a nice set of wheels, it is overkill for daily driving.

Plenty of people have bigger rims with the stock rotors- there is nothing taboo about that.

You'll be kicking yourself in the a$$ when you spend close to $5,000 over something that you think makes your car 'look' better.

well thanks for setting me straight then, my car only has about 8k miles on it, how much longer will the stock brakes last and stock rotors? does it matter what type of paint you use to paint the calipers if I do decide to do that?

Paypal me $4,000.00 and I'll take care of this decision.

The right 19” wheel (small ID) could look good with 06 brakes. I would disagree that BBK are only useful on the track, most kits are a huge improve on the road, unless you drive your Z like a Hyundai!

Brake pads wear out, but stock brakes last as long as the car lasts. Most people that own the 350Z, do NOT modify it at all. There are 350Zs out there, that have over 100,000 miles on them.

Don't do caliper paint on stock brakes!!! That is SUCH a turn off... Total rice. Get good calipers/ rotors, otherwise leave them unpainted.

Bigger rims generally mean more rotating mass, so bigger brakes could help out. For looks, keep an eye out for a set of stock Brembos. They should be cheaper (around $1500-$2000), and they'll fill the space nicely.

I wouldn't paint the stock calipers either, it highlights how small they are relative to the rims IMHO. If you do, get specific caliper paint.

Modifying your stock brake system is one way to have your insurance not cover you in case of an accident.

You don't need to throw $s for a BBK. I auto-x & track my Z using my stock brakes (with upgraded race pads & stainless steel brake lines). Here is my painted calipers on my '06 Z. Cost me $15 to paint the calipers red:

it's not "frowned" upon man, it doesn't look bad at all. i have non-brembo brakes (stock) and i have 20' axis matrix' on my Z. i get compliments all the time, especially at the last meet i went to.

The stock brakes on my '04 touring would start to fade if used heavily. The Brembo/ Stoptech combo on my '06 GT (so far) are more fade-resistant and consistent under harder conditions.
