Default Rice or Nice?? Red calipers (Please post pics)

Is it considered rice to paint your stock calipers red then adding a nissan or 350z decal on them? I have seen some folks on the forum sport this mod. Is it considered rice?

Very ricey. Big brakes with name brand logos are the only way to go if you want some decals on your calipers.

If you want red OEM callipers, or black or pink for that matter, then do it. Its your car.

in my opinion it matters on how its done...if you use good quality paint and then put decals on, it will look pretty good. I just hate it when the red is fading and looks all ****ty...so just use quality stuff and take ur time and you should be goood, i love it when u see red calipers that also look glossy, like on the porches. Ive never done it cuz i dont really know how to create that look

just do a two step paint, Paint, clear, wetsand, buff back out with a good compound, polish, wax.

I have had 4 piston brembo calipers professionally painted before.

i saw regular red calipers on an 06 VW GTI(DSG tranny)...they actually look home made. The owner told me they came from the VW stock.

Please....

....don't

if you love your Z....it'll look really cheap in my opinion. If anything I woulf paint the hub and the calipers a matted black to make them less noticeable.

Just save up and get a BBK or OEM Brembo. Honestly I have to admit I considered what you said + some stoptech rotors. However, after considering my options I just don't see it as being worthwhile. At the end, I know I wouldn't be happy with it. I ended up with this instead...and I think it's the best choice.

For about 1.8k ~ 2k you can get some nicely used OEM Brembos from a Track, GT, or 35th Anniversary Edition Z and do the install yourself.

Personal preference, but I would think it would depend on what color your car is.

If you don't wanna spend extra cash for a BBK then go for it, but make sure you do a good job.

With a black car, red will look good. I did mine silver, just cause i didn't want them to stand out too much since they were still OEM, but the normal "silverness" was starting to dullen from age, so i wanted them to basically look new again. Get the duplicolor kit from advance autoparts. Used it on my last two cars. Had great results!! Plus it's only like $15.00!! If you take your time, they wont look rice. at least pull a bolt and slide the caliper up (or down depending on what side) so you don't paint the pad too. (that would be rice if you paint the pad too) Good luck!!

It looks good on a black car, just make sure and buy "caliper paint", got mine at tirerack. Simple to do. I didn't need a BBK so I didn't waste my cash. You will like the outcome.

I don't understand how people consider this rice. Apparently, the stock-non brembo brakes look so good in all their oxidized glory that painting them is out of the question.

Paint them if you like, because it's your car. Make sure you prep the calipers before you do so that the paint will adhere well. I used a wire brush to get rid of the excess dust and scale, cleaned everything off with brake cleaner, and painted using Duplicolor caliper paint.

I would recommend using G2 paint from tirerack instead though because it has an additional hardener. In my experience, the Duplicolor paint chips a little too easily.

Finish off the calipers with vinyl Nissan emblems from JVD Graphics. They withstand braking temperatures and hold up to pressure washing.

OoOo this is good information. Do body shops usually do this kind of thing? I have to take my car in next week, and I was thinking of asking them to do it since its gonna be there anyway.

I really don't want this to be a standard vs Auto thread. It almost seems like the folks that have aftermarket brakes are saying, "nay" and the stock folks are saying, "go for it". If this is happening, then that sucks. If not, then thanks for your honest opinion.

black/silver is not too bad. It cleans up the unpainted stock caliper look. When people go and paint the stock calipers red, green, etc it looks as if there trying to be something they are not.
