Unhappy Not too happy with my coilovers....

Just installed my TEINS and EDFC, but now I am thinking the ride is too harsh for me (they're at the softest setting). I've never had suspension mods before. I also lowered my car, and now the car is noisier and feels more hollow! I can feel and hear every bump, and the trunk "thumps" quite often. Is what I am experiencing normal? Should I let another shop check the install out? The car looks damn nice now, but I am having mixed feelings!!!

It's raining, so I'll post pics some time this weekend!

I think people should really understand what coilovers are all about...its a suspension performance mod..you give up some comfort for the added performance and response. If you're even mildly hesitant, stay away from coilovers.

Tein is in an odd position where they have received complaints from performance-minded people that the Flex is too soft while many people have complained that the Flex is too harsh (people who have most likely not had coilovers before). Tein coilovers in general are on the milder side except for their HA/RA line and if you find the Flex to be harsh, you won't find a softer setup. Expect some news later concerning the Tein line in a few months.

Sorry to hear about your problems but it sounds like what you wanted was not what coilovers offer in general.

I'll let the springs settle, do an alignment, check the trunk for loose items during the weekend and go from there!!!

speaking of coilovers what has everyones experience been with other makes like JIC, HKS, or NISMO

which would be better tailored towards a daily street type ride?

I use the HKS Hypermax and I love em. I have the car down to about 1" all the way around and the ride is fantastic. The set up is pre-set out of the box so no need to adjust them. The ride quality is great for everyday driving. It also allows you to have a much tighter set up from stock if you decide to track from time to time.

I have had no problems with odd sounds, harsh ride quality or problems of any kind. I would recommend this coilover system to anyone who asks. I bought this sytem kinda by chance and im glad I did.

I'd say the HKS or Nismo ones would be the softest ride. The Tein in the middle and JIC being full racey/stiff ride. Let the springs settle in a bit and it'll probably be a bit better later on. Sometimes, it takes a while for the coilovers to settle in. But don't expect them to be Lexus smooth after the break in period.

You might want to go for a ride in failsaf3's car to see how the ride is as well. He's been driving with the tein and the edfc should be going in today I think. He should be there on Sat.

Man, you're making me rethink the teins... maybe I should just stick to s-tune....

Default Coilovers

We have tried the Tein, HKS and the JIC's.

My preference for my car is the JIC's. For people who want a softer than normal ride, they can be configured with progressive rate rears and different valving.

Regards

Default ride quality

We found JIC had the best performance. The HKS and Tein we about the same as far as ride quality. On the other end of the scale the JIC's with the progressive rate rears and different valving had the best ride quality. That configuration was intially set up for the G35.

The other factor here is very few people can tell the difference from brand to brand by the seat of their pants. This assumes all things being equal.

So this is somewhat of an subjective question. I think going fo rthe best performance is the way to go without added features not needed.

Then you have to look at spare parts, re-buildability etc.

Regards

This is true they (JIC) have a street spec and a track spec you choose. So obvoiusly if ride is a concern then you probably want the street spec but it still comes down to personal choice and how you plan to use the vehicle .

Moodie,

Mr B is right on- they need a week or two to settle- there is a noticable difference now than when mine were first installed- you can drive my car at D & B's on Saturday and see if you feel the difference. I love my Tein's and don't even have the EDFC installed yet.

Default Alright, I am an idiot!!!

Got to playing with the settings, and I had been riding on the stiffest setting all along. Now that I tried the softer settings, I know and can tell the ride is better! I am very happy!

I guess that's whats the adjustability is for!!!
