I know many people have removed the dust shields on previous models for improved cooling. Has anyone else done this on the 07's?

I did. Not a good outcome for me. The ABS sensor is clearly rubbing on the back of the seal in the hub. In fact, the seals in the hubs are severely damaged as is one of the sensors.

Apparently the ABS sensors have been relocated versus where they are on the previous years. I am not sure if this changed the tolerance between the hub and sensor or what, but removing the shields seems to have changed it enough to ruin them.
