Default How to remove rear rotors?

Can someone tell me how to remove the rear rotors (brembo)? I got the front done without a hitch and the rotors popped right off, but the rears are snug as can be. I beat the living crap out of them, adjusted the parking brake, and can't think of what else to try. Does the hub bolt need to be removed in the rear, or is there anything else I am missing? Thanks

By adjusted do you mean completely let off?

No, there is a little click wheel that you click by sticking a flat blade screwdriver through the hole in the inner rotor. P Brake is completely off and has been adjusted full loose to not apply pressure to the rotor, but still it won't budge...

I had the same problem when I changed my rotors but, I do not have the Brembos. I ended up have to get a large gear puller to remove them. Beating on them didn't help.

Just to update for anyone reading this thread for advice. I bought a gear puller like teh215 said and with a lot of pressure managed to yank it off. It was on there really good...the rubber mallet and dead blow hammer failed, the sledgehammer and piece of wood failed, and the nut and bolt through the caliper bracket pushing on the rotor failed.

You know, I just put spacers on my car this weekend and I started with the rear. At first I couldn't beat it off with the rubber mallot. I said, this is going to be a long day. I ended up knocking the studs slightly loose, then a simple tap to the outside rotor and it simply came off. But you weren't going to replace your studs, so that's a different status. Just making chat on how there a PITA.

Then I tell my DAD about it and he states we had a puller in the shop. Wow, never knew we had one. Never had to use it. But the other weren't bad at all.

I had to beat on mine with a hammer and a wooden drift. I beat on them to the point that I remember thinking, "I really shouldn't be doing this." Finally, they did come off, and I actually managed not to break anything in the process.

It was a PITA to take mines off. I looked up all the DIY but none of them worked. What I did was beat on the hat of the rotor between the studs. Trust me I tried hitting it where the pads made contact with the rotors. I won't work. So find a spot between the studs and beat the hell out of it. As soon as you see it budge switch up to the other end and eventually it'll come off.

PB Blaster around the studs and center openning...Hit the rotor around the outer edge at a slight inward angle HARD three to five time at different points...Rotor pops loose. That was my experience anyway a couple of weeks ago on an 04 with 40,000 miles.

Search and the Factory Service Manual are your friend. Your parking brakes are going to hate you...no need to bang or use pullers on anything guys:

I just replaced my front rotors and pads, replaced the rear pads because I couldnt get the damn thing off? What is the little rubber thing (looks like a flat head should go in there?) I ended up pushing the **** in and left it there because I couldnt get the damn thing off. The rotors look ok....it is normal to get a little pulsing when you put all new pads on or is something warped? I bed them in 60-10mph stops a few times till the smell of brakes made me sick a little smoke...it works well but I want it to be smooth like when I got the Z any suggestions?

+1

no need to adjust parking brake shoes. bimmers stick like this all the time. a couple good wacks around the hub(easier on those being studless) and they fall right off.

take a wire brush to your hub and put some high temp anit-sieze around it to prevent that from happening again.

I did this same thing with the little rubber thing, I have no idea wtf it was/is and it bothers the hell out of me that I pushed it inside the rotor.

Any know if thats gonna effect anything or wtf this is exactly?

Wow, this is making me cringe.

Remove the rubber plug, using a flat blade screwdriver back the parking brake off, turning the adjustment gear and remove the rotor.
To reset the parking brake, drive in reverse 10-15MPH and step on the brakes, not too hard though.
