I've dropped my Z to the lowest setting on Tein Flex and also cut the rubber top mount so it is pretty dam low but my tuner who fitted my SPC camber kit on the rear said that I didn't need the toe adjustment bolt fitted as he could get the toe aligned without it.

Is he talking BS?

hmmm thats weird cause i have the same camber kit and the shop that put mine on did use the toe bolts. not really sure there. i think you DO need them to get back into spec

 

that is a little hard to believe that he could get it in spec after it's been dropped that low. what you could do is ask for the before and after alignment sheets and see. then if he is talking BS, install the bolts and have him do it again. he shouldn't be charging you for the second time.

 

+1, also what is his definition of in specs? Nominal value or just a hair inside the very wide OEM specs

 

Did your shop perform an alignment after the install work?

If not.. there is no way they know you do, or do not need the bolts...

my guess is you will need them.

 

They installed the Tein kit and the front and rear camber kit and did all the geometry alignment, and did not use the bolts. When i pickup the car they gave me them back and said i did not need them.

The bolts are for toe yes? Surely there is not a wide range of OEM specs for toe is there? Camber yes but not toe?

 

Rear camber/toe adjustment is limited stock. Post the alignment sheet before/after.

What kind of hack shop doesn't supply an alignment sheet. How do you even know they did one at all?

 

I'm dropped 20mm in the rear and have no camber kit at all, and yes my car is within spec. It is possible.

 

keep in mind that 20mm is only about 3/4".

If he did get the toe "in spec" then you are running alot of negative camber. The stock toe bolts are kinda limited. I would take it to another shop or ask for a print out for sure.

 

******** you need the toe bolts i promise unless you want to go through your tires really quick. dont learn the hard way like me.

 

I'm in the Uk so i don't know if it is different but i've never had an alignment sheet before after using a number of shops. I've never had to have camber adjusted but have had toe adjusted regularly on other cars.

It is going back in to have the geometry redone after the springs are all settled in and i will tell him he needs to use the toe bolts.

 

Colin, if you've driven the car more than 100 miles with the coilovers in, everything is settled...get it corrected asap so you don't kill your expensive tires! What I would suggest is speaking to the shop that did the alignment, and have them put the car back on their alignment rack for inspection. Ask them to show you the values for each of the 4 wheels and compare that to what the nominal specs should be (this info will be in the alignment machines computer). Remember, as you change camber, you change toe automatically, and vice versa. Make the changes as needed, and request the printout after its done so you have it to refer to for future alignments.

tow affects the tires more than camber does... i would get use the towbolts regardless of what the shop says
