Default tein basic height adjustment

first off i searched on the forum and didnt find anything.. just a bunch of threads people trying to sell their kit.

but anyways ive got tein basics and am trying to figure how to adjust the height for my rears. i have never worked on suspension ever, so im pretty clueless. for example what am i looking for on the coilover itself and what to do to lower it. any help would be much appreciated.

heres a pic of the Z, trying to adjust the rears to sit a little lower.

IIRC, the rear height adjustment on Tein coilovers in the rear is at the top of the spring. We won't talk about adjusting the rear dampers (shocks) because Basics don't have that feature.

http://www.tein.com/tech_info/inst/lp26u.pdf
Page 9 has a parts diagram for the rear setup.

If you try to lower the rear height without the step's below your asking for misery because of tension being on the spring and seat.

1. Jack the rear of the car and support it with jack stands.

2. Remove the rear tires.

3. Place a floor jack under the control arm under the center of the spring. Place enough pressure on the control arm so that you can pull the lower bolt of that holds the bottom of the dampner in the control arm (lower shock mount). With the bolt out, push the dampner free and off the control arm. Lower the jack so it does not touch the suspension control arm. Hopefully you have removed enough pressure on the adjustable spring seat that you can now turn it. Start with the collar that is at the very top and spin it up. Then work on the collar that the spring is sitting on, spinning upwards of course. Repeat step 3 on the other side of the car.

4. Spin upper locking collar down to set the ride height, tighten it in place. Repeat on the other side.

5. Place damper back on control arm mount, you may have to use the floor jack to raise the control arm a bit to do this. The floor jack will also allow you to make sure you can slip in the bolt into the lower shock mount on the control arm. Tighten the bolt and repeat on the other side.

Looks good! The front looks really low already. I'm thinking about going with the basics also. Post pics when you get the rear finished...

You aren't going to be able to go much lower in the rear. The Basics max out at just over 1" drop in the rear. If you want to equal the drop you currently have in the front, you will have to do the "rear spring seat mod".

Hmm didn't know that. Looks like I'll be going with a different coilovers then.

no, you can take either one or both adjustment collars to lower an extra inch or so.

Good thread,

Gsedan is correct, spin collars upwards in the rear to lower.

How does that work ???? Considering with a coilover installed its not used. So if its not on the car , then you cut and put it back on the shelf, how does it lower the car more???

A real way of going lower is to spend less tha $100 and order shorter springs.

considering that the tein basic is not a coilover for the rear, the spring mount mod will work for this.

Just jack up the car, take the wheel off. There are two collars that are cinched together, use the two wrenches that came with the coilovers to adjust them. I would suggest spraying the threads down with either a soapy solution or watered down simple green. That takes the dirt off the threads and makes it easier to turn. Just measure how much you spin it upward before locking the other collar to it, and do the same for the other side.

LOL , Basics use the same rear coils setup as most other coilover for the Z. The rubber Spring seat gets removed to install the spring and adjustment assembly. You would know that if you worked on these cars.

Hmm...is it ok that I spun the collars up on my rear springs with damper still connected? I still had all the tension on it. I do know that the whole spring was spinning in the bucket while doing this but made sure that before I let the car down that the spring was sitting in the bucket right.

Also does the rubber mount on the bottom of the stock spring have to be mounted on the aftermarket coils? I'm assuming so and that is what I did.
