Default HELP can't get old suspension off...

Ok, so me and my friend are trying to get the old suspension off so we can put my new coilovers on. The 2 prong bottom is held together by a big bolt... And for some reason none of them will come off, even with an impact wrench. Is there something else we're supposed to take off?

Any advice? It will not move, and the impact wrench is starting to strip the bolt tops.

Thanks in advance.

Are you talking about the bolt on the bottom in the front?

I had to use a 1/2" ratchet, impact socket, and cheater pipe to break it.

I had to use a breaker bar, I think what blasian meant by cheater pipe is the same idea as a breaker bar, more leverage. just make sure the soket is on the nut all the way with the breaker bar, or else the nut will strip. Good luck, took me some muscle to get it off.

You need to disconnect the sway bar. You have to jack up the suspension to a neautral position and then pull out the bolt that holds the lower control arm to the sway bar end link. Then with the suspension still in the neutral position (no weight on the suspension bolt) remove the bolt from the lower shock mount. Then the suspension can fully drop and you can remove the shock. Unless you remove the swaybar end link you will never get it off. I promise.

And use a rubber mallet on the bar so you can slowly budge that nut.

PB Blaster and using your big boy muscles will do it.

A few options..but this works well

good penetrating oil always a good idea.

then...Expensive breakover bar is a must (cheap ones will give out, and break your arm.)
possibly a cheater on that (another reason to use an expensive one).

if you have a helper they can tap the bolt with a hammer while you have tension on it....sometimes this vibration will allow the bolt to break loose.

once its broken loose, jack up suspension to where you can just pull/tap the boltout, (d/c sway endlink as prev. suggested.)

oh and remember "Righty tighty, lefty loosey"

after ****ing with my front suspensions, we got 1 done after 3 different people had there way with the breaker bar. The other side WOULD NOT move. We sprayed a half a can of pb blaster and used a heavy duty breaker bar. It just started to strip. I ended up having to take it to my local performance shop... The bolts on my car were definitely over torqued... the shop had to cut the bolt off. I had the same problem when trying to install my exhaust. luckily, they did everything and even cut my fenders too for a good price.

Glad you got it all worked out...sometimes bolts/nuts like to weld themselves together.

You would think everything would come off quite easily being it is an '08 model. I had no problems like this when I was taking mine apart.

Cool. Food for thought though...stick to 6pt. You're asking for trouble (stripped bolts) with 12pt in high torque situations.

ya. the whole thing was a ****in mess. I cant believe a snap on heavy duty breaker bar nor an impact wrench could take it off. pisses me off... oh well. Charles at RXperformance hooked me up. they are very professional over there.
