True. I will just make a small hole. I know that damn socket is gonna fall in there at least once, and I'm going to have to hold my car upside down and shake the sh*t out of it to get it out

are you sure you need a socket?

and get a magnetic grabber:

or one of the bendy claw grabber things.

Well I don't "need" a socket. The coilovers come with these little ***** you turn. BUT i would have to make the wholes big enough to get my fingers in there to turn the *****. SO i guess I'll just leave the turn ***** off and use a socket to turn the bolt the **** sits on. I REALLY do need one of those magnet grabbers. It would have saved me hours of feeling in the dark by now

I was just referencing the fact that all coil overs should come with a damn allen hex on them.

Sorry to bring this thread up again but can someone please post a good pic of where exactly to cut a hole in order to adjust my coilovers. I just want to make sure I cut in the correct areas over the adjusting bolts.

Just take off the plastics and shine a high powered flashlight in one of the existing small holes in the strut. Put your eye right up against the strut and look down inside the strut itself. You will then see the top of the coilover that you twist. Just eye if up and cut a small hole above the coilover. That's what I did and it worked out fine. Try to cut as small of a hole as possible. Start with a small hole and enlarge as necessary

i know this is from 2009.. but um, really guys?
the adjuster extenders are only 39 dollars man. Not each, for the set haha.
They work just fine, i made a tiny notch and there they sit. I mean theres even a washer on the end of it. pop hatch, adjust, close hatch.
Repeat for front, but pop different lever under dash, and walk to opposite end of car...

thats pretty much it.

I just used a unibit http://www.google.com/products?q=unibit&hl=en the harbor freight version works great , and cut the hole as big as the bit would let me. Simple and easy, i also cut the panels so i didn't havr to remove them to adjust the coilovers.

Not all coilovers have extenders available. Also its not like you have to adjust your damper settings often. Just make the cut, don;t cut the plastoc trim panel, pop the trim panel off when you need to make an adjustment.

I agree with this (although I have extenders which I just tuck under the plastic). But like any other interior plastic, be careful when removing and reinstalling the trim pieces, as the molded plastic tabs holding the metal clips have a tendency to fatigue and break if you're not pulling them in just the right direction.

One minor point regarding extenders is that the only way to avoid cutting a bigger hole in the strut tower is to install the extenders at the same time you are installing the rear shocks, i.e. 1) secure extender socket onto top of shock, 2) remove adjustment **** from extender (usually held in place by socket set screw), 3) feed extender cable up through existing hole in strut bar as you position the shock in place. Once you get the rear shock bolted in place, reattach the adjustment **** onto the end of the extender cable.

So my point is, anyone whose extenders come with the coilovers should follow the steps above. Anyone who already has coilovers installed and wants to install extenders at a later date may find it easier to drill out larger holes in the strut bar to avoid having to take apart the rear suspension, mess with the rear alignment, etc.

Taking the shock out with true or OEM style coilover will not do anything to your alignment settings.

I was thinking if the spring doesn't re-seat the exact same way, ride height could change a bit, but you're right it's probably not an appreciable change.

I drilled a hole, it's in a thread somewhere here...it cost me $40 right about the same price range of the extenders...

Once you take he cover off the rear strut bar you'll see exactly where to drill or place the extenders...
