Default CZP Akebono and the dreaded squeal

Ok I bought a CZP Akebono BBK about 4 months ago and it's a phenomenal kit... But for some reason it squels when I make left hand turns or slam my brakes. I had to trim the corners of the calipers to fit my LM's when I installed them and the right hand side make absolutely no noise whatsoever. I've taken the rim off to check for wear marks and haven't noticed anything to accompany such an annoying sound... Anyone with this kit or a 370z BBK have this problem?

YUP! Trim the inner bolt inside the rotor. if you look you will probably see some wear on it. after trimming a decent amount of it I still get a sqeal when I go in reverse. Mine was on the right and not the left. I am betting that the tolerance is off on the spacers.

You have to love crappy fitting, China-produced, aftermarket knockoffs that require trimming and cutting after spending x-a-thousand dollars.

So I was thinking about picking up the CZP kit for my 350z...2008 with stock rims...when you say trimming things...you are modifying the caliper right? Is this happening to everyone?

I had to mod the caliper b/c it was rubbing on the inside of the rim.

I thought these where made inhouse... They are machined pieces. They work really well execpt for the problem I'm experiencing.

I'm competing in the Miami Mile(Mile Marker-1) and I don't think the guys inspecting will let that pass.

Dang, sorry to hear you spent ~$2k and you won't pass tech. Made in-house? As in CZP has a machine shop? Absolutely not. I hope they're actually Akebono's, but who knows after this debacle: https://my350z.com/forum/the-lounge-...authentic.html

Yea ouch.. It was that expensive. As for the Akebono's themselves.. My old man has a 370Z sport and he wanted to see if my rotors(power slots) fit his 370. I was taking his off and he decided not to do it.. At that point I was able to compare them and if they are fake.. They did a HELL of a job duplicating them. I'm really not sure about CZP's practices but unfortunately i have them. I'll have them off tomm and I'll shoot some pics.

Did you trim the caliper where the washers are? Or did you trim the bracket? Thanks for the info guys.. if there is a problem I hope I can bring it to light and offer a fix.

Its not too difficult to remove the plate. Just turn the wheel toward the outside and remove the four bolts on the outside

plate...as in dust shield? I know when installing BBKs trimming/removing the dust shield is pretty much mandatory...Ive also seen squealing resulting from not trimming/doing it wrong.

it sucks to hear the shady practices of Concept z, I was considering the akebono brakes, but between the cost, the weight of the rotors, and this, I'll probably go with the oem brembos.

The Akebono Calipers are authentic Akebono Calipers, they come straight from Nissan and are also in Nissan OEM boxes with part numbers. The only part that we make for the Akebono Kits are the brackets to fit them, and those are made in the USA. This is a rare issue, and it could be that you didn't trim the dust shields enough, please make sure you contact me tomorrow so we can go over your setup.

Thanx Guys

Coz

Ok.. CASE CLOSED

I took off the wheel and started checking the rotor for any type of odd markings (anything that look like a cut, scrape, or a gouge) couldnt find anything abnormal. I wiped the whole caliper down and started looking at the ends that I had to trim to fit the wheels.. and again just a little scrape on a raised section of the caliper that I didnt trim all that much. With my trusty dremel I trimmed the caliper (facing the barrel of the wheel) I went ahead and took the WHOLE system off and started assembling the kit.. I noticed that when I originally put the kit on it gave me a little trouble around the back side of the lower section of the caliper. I completely trimmed the dust shield off.. I will admit I was too lazy to take the hub off to remove the dust shield (88 degrees and 75% humidity.. its hot as hell). The kit went on smoothly.. considerably smoother than the first time. I spoke to Coz directly and he gave me some areas to look at... with his help I was able to fit the rim back on and start turning it.. no noise. I lowered the car and started making left hand turns and slamming my brakes (not at the same time of course.. it'll make me puke), again.. no noise.

In conclusion:

1. BBS LM 18inch owners will have to trim the outside part of the calipers to clear the inside of the wheel.

2. Take the dust shield off COMPLETELY the first time..

3. When tightening the bracket make sure you DO NOT shift the position of the bracket when cranking down on the wrench/socket. This will cause for the bracket to move and cause for the caliper to sit higher/lower depending on what side the error was.

Thanks for your input guys.. it gave me somewhere to start. I would still recommend this kit to anyone.. yes its pricey but it was worth it.

Thanks for the update as I am hoping to soon bite the bullet on this kit.

For "number 3" in your post...with the bracket shifting, is there a lot of play when lining it up to tighten down?
