OP, I did my own HKS Hypermax III install myself. It was a fun project. It look me a while to complete the work because I never did it before. I bought the tools and I believe it was $100 or less for everything (unless you need a jack/jackstands). Only downside is once you get that stuff installed you need to take it to a shop and get an alignment.
I dunno. Maybe somewhere between 500-750. Does this $750 install include alignment? If it does, that's a really good deal imo.

not to hijack but my question is along the same lines guys ... i was quoted $525 minimum for a simple set of springs and sway bars installation. i'm thinking that sounds ridiculously high. i installed a Motordyne MREV2 and plenum spacer 2-3 weeks ago without any problems whatsoever... is this also something i'd be able to do myself with the proper tools and ample amount of time?

how do you feel about the $525 quote i was given? high? they also quoted something like $300-400 for the plenum work which wasn't hard or time consuming at all. i'm no tim the toolman taylor but i can certainly find my way around the garage if it'll save me $500!

i do a fair amount of side work, and go with book labor times(although there are no book times for setting ride height on a set of coilovers, or most other aftermarket parts) at $40/hr.
at that rate, i would charge around $3-400 for the work quoted. so for a shop to charge $750 is not that out of wack considering the door rate of most shops are double my rate.
its always cheaper to diy, unless you screw something up and have to have a shop fix it.

glad to hear you're gonna do it yourself. Might want to add a 14mm end wrench to that list. I also don't know what you guys are talking about with these extensions either. I've dropped the exhaust/cats from the car in under 30 minutes. The cats really aren't that big of a deal. Just unbolt the Y-pipe from the rest of the exhaust to give you some extra play to get the cats unhooked and out.
