Default Tein Basic Kit

Is the Tein basic kit for about $850 everything i need. i want to do a 1" drop about, and a better ride and better handling. i will probably add sway bars eventually. and im correct in thinking this will get rid of the bounce. I dont really want to spend more than $1000 on coilovers. Also, how much does the install usually go for? Im just tryin to do the most research possible. I was considering going with just the eibach springs, but i have heard a bunch or people have camber issues, and increased understeer. will this happen as with the Tein Basic kit? Thanks

Bill~

If you run a search and narrow it to this the section of the board that were in right not, this thread would have come up.

https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....ght=tein+basic

Their is now one other known Tein Basic owner. They were just installed on a G35 sedan. He doesn't have enough miles on the car to be able to give worthwhile comments on how they are. I'm going to wait, just like I did with Narkotic, for him to get some miles on the suspension before I pm him see get his impressions of the setup.

BTW, $850 is to high for the basics. If you search, you can find them for $783 on the net.

My opinion on this kit:

If you need lowering and better handling for the street, spend 200 bucks on lowering springs.

If you REALLY DO need a coilover kit for racing, spend the money and get a real setup, not a half *** attempt.

Half assed attempt? My basic coilvers are ****ing awesome. There is nothing half - assed with any Tein product. I have now over 3k miles on them and I woudln't get rid of them for anything.

Well, last weekend I did my own brake job (go me, first time) and after taking the wheels off i was able to examine the tires. No uneven wearing whatsoever, and there is now 2k on the coilovers/tires...

I don't understand how its half assed at all either - it basically is a pefectly matched set of spring sand struts (ala the NISMO kit), but adds the ability to quickly adjust rideheight....not half assed at all IMHO, and WAY less money than NISMO.

Is it a set of Zeals or JIC's? Noppe - not intended to be, doesn't pretend to be, and the intedned customer would never consider both those in teh same sentance

I agree with Adam and Narkotic, the Tein basis is pretty much a NISMO S-Tune but with the added feature of height adjustability.

does the car make any noises? i'm not too familiar w/ coilovers...my friend had them on his maxima a couple years ago (i think ground control) and they used to squeek A LOT...but then again that was a cheap setup from back in the day, and i know TEIN is a lot better quality...

We have not had any noise complaints yet (uses stock upper mounts which is nice for comfort and noise reduction)

what about adding the electronic kit? good idea? not worth it? i think it would be cool to hit a button and have more comfort and hit another and have "sport" mode and another and have track settings.

I believe that the basics only can be changed in height.

No noise created as they use the stock upper mounts.

They can not be electronically controled for dampening, mainly because they don't have dapening adjustibility. Get the Flex or CS system for that.

Yes ride height can be changed, that is it.

how's the ride for this basic coilover? r they very bumpy on the street? or they r comfortable? since they don't have damping to adjust.

Question

Confused - does this kit allow ride height adjustment w/o changing the spring rate directly?

I'm also having a little heartburn on the cost for JIC's, and may be a little more than I want.

Most important to me is ability to get better dampening than stock, more progressive spring rate, and hopefully an easy adjustment for Track use.

I live in an area where lowering much all the time would strip parts off the underside (frost heaves, some crummy roads near my home).

I really noticed the slow (relative) rebound on the track at Louden, NH. When you cross the oval there is an abrupt transition and the car seems to take a few oscillations to settle back down - i.e. a little bouncy, forcing you to stay neutral longer than you want to on steering and throttle.

Anyway, if someone could tell me about the ride height adjustment I'd be grateful.
Thanks!

I don't think you'll find coilovers with a progressive spring.....

These permit ride height adjustment only...via the lower spring perch. The FLTA2 is more adjustable, as you can lower the car without preloading the spring. Preloading limits suspension travel. How much is the magic number? I cannot say for sure on this car yet.

Ride quality was near stock - comparable to the NISMO S Tune's, but with added ability to adjust rideheight. A terrific street setup IMHO

I have taken a few of my fellow g35 owning friends for a ride in my car, and they immediatly fell in love with the ride from the basics. Someone I know went with the Flex system/EDFC and mentioned even on the softest setting it was stiffer than my Basics. Basics are a compromise between stiff and ride softness. I've gotten so used to how great mine are after taking a ride in a friends stock car the bouncy-ness(of the stock car) made me sick...

Thanks - I meant progressive for a basic spring replacement, not for coilovers. So is it safe to say lowering the ride height affects spring rate or stiffness? It sounds like preloading is part of the deal if you change ride height - i.e. more preload if you lower?

Thanks!
