Default Which Coilovers???

Hey guys, sorry for another coilover thread, but this one is kinda different :]

I was set on getting bc br racing coils, since I don't plan on tracking the car and want a nice drop. But then i saw tanabe pro 5 and tanabe pro s-oc and was wondering how do these compare to the bc coils? I did a lot of research on the bc coils, so I know a lot of members love them. But I could only find one thread about the tanabe coilovers. All the other threads are about their lowering springs. So for its price, around 8-9hundred for pro s-oc and 12hundred for pro five, and 1k for bc, which is the best buy? I ask because I have no info on the tanabe coils, and although i know tanabe is a good brand for suspension, I don't want them to be like the cheap tein coils, which some members call crap even though its from Tein. So thanks....

I have Eibach coilovers.. .theyre a KW Shock body with Eibach springs. I know theyre not one of the ones you listed but since you have no intent of tracking it, they may be something you may consider.

yea looked at stance, but some members told me they didnt like the ride quality with stance. Also, they allow you to SLAM the car, not really what i need.

Yea, I heard about those. Is the quality the same as kw? How much is the price? And how much do they drop?

I am worried about the drop kw2 will provide over the bc coils. I know you can drop the car a good amount with bc, but not too much info with kw or eibach

^^ Dont know if I want the eibach's. Says you can't adjust the dampening on the rear.

i looked into function and form. Seems like a lot of people have good reviews. Now i have to decide between kw 2, function and form, or bc. I like bc's because they have great ride, nice drop, and if anything breaks, you can just replace it cheaply.

BTW, for function and form/kw 2, how do you adjust the rear dampening? Can you use an extender like bc?

Here's a quote from the guy I bought my BCs from, he had replaced them with KW V2s:
"Kw have an oem ride but dnt drop as low as the bc. Adjustments r hard to get to unlike the bc."

I haven't had time to install them yet so I can't offer any intelligent advice, hope this helps.

If his experience with the Bc coilovers was anything like when I tested Megan coilovers (Bc makes them), I totally unstand why he kicked them to the curb for the Kw Variant 2.

On the ease of adustablity, the comment makes no sense whatsoever. Both coilovers adjust from the top of the piston shafts. So they both have the same access. Now if he had the extenders on the rear Bc dampers, yes that would make a differance. But you can purchase a long reach allen wrench with a handle and adjust the rear Kw's with the same ease.

I have the same KW's that you're interested in. What would you like to know?

They're great street coilovers. My ride height is 1.5" all around and rebound damper is fully adjustable. I'm very happy with them

On the subject of worrying about the drop of Kw variant 2 or the Eibach Pro-S, the max drop as spoken by Kw themselves is 1.8".

I'm not a fan of the Tanabe Pro-5, yes they are adjustable, but looking at the shock dyno's posted by Tanabe, I do not like what happens to compression damping past med settings. The adjustors do not change rebound nearly as much as they effect compresion, especially in the rear, where it hardly changes at all.

I have shock dyno's for the Variant 2, very nice. I would set them at full soft and test. I would not use settings beyond half way unless I was on a track and the higher settings netted lower times. Otherwise I really don't see the point setting past half on the street.

Eibach's do not offer adjustable dampening, just adjustable height

given what you've posted so far, you are a long way from needed adjustable dampening IMHO

Slamming a Z is a great way to completely ruin it's handling unless you take ALOT of other precautions and use some pretty exotic stuff...none of which anyone here does. Anyone who says differently, frankly doesn't know a thing about a truly well handling Z

The process for picking the right coilover is simple

1. Set a budget. Not a budget that you oscillate on, but a budget you don't want to exceed. You're not going to get the behavior of a $1500, or $2000 coilover, out of a $900-$1000 coilover, so keep that in mind. Make sure you factor in the cost of rear, possibly front camber kit, as well as install, and alignment

2. Define your goals. Be HONEST. Don't claim you're going to track days when you don't even know where the track is. Don't claim you want 'em for "drift use" when you're experience is limited to Gran Turismo. Don't claim you want the car slammed and you want truly exceptional handling, because you're not going to achieve that.
