what coilovers to go with???
ok, I know alot of guys run teins, and jic. Which one do you prefer, and are the jic's worht the 2gs? I ama huge autocrosser, so I do run the car hard at times. I plan on sing hte 350evo swaybars aswell. Looking at purchasing in the spring. Any info is helpfull.
Well, you have several options with the JICs, you can get the setup with the progressive rear, or the setup with the linear rear. The linear rear is a 12kg/mm spring, while the progressive is a 10kg/mm progressive spring. The progressive is going to be very similar to the Teins. If you are as much of an autoxer as you claim to be, you'd probably want to go with teh JIC linear setup. However, be forewarned that the ride is going to be very stiff on the street.
I had a friend of mine who swore by the Teins drive my car this weekend around Summit Point, and he loved the JICs. I've been happy with my purchase thus far (purchasing experience aside)...

Yes, i would much rather have linar springs. rough ride doesn't bother me. Onmy old car i ran switched from progressive to linar, and liked it much better. Can you get linar with teins?

Which do you have, and do you use your Z for commuting? I want my Z to handle like it's on rails, but I drive it everyday and I don't know that I'll be doing any AutoX anytime soon.
Well, what I have is a VERY long story, but essentially I ordered the JICs, and was sent the progressive setup (which no one knew existed at that time). After much bitching, I ended up selling them and buying the correct ones. That aside, the progressive setup was originally designed for the G35C (or so I've been told).
Anyways, do I commute on them? Well, yes and no. I walk to work, but do drive around town periodically. I'm not going to lie, the ride is really rough (even on full soft), but it's bearable. Then again, DC roads are atrocious, and love to bend / break wheels. If I did commute, would I still have them? Yes, but I'm also young, single, and would rather have a all out sports car.

Thanks for the info. I've had some rough riding cars in the past and I too believe that I have a higher tolerance for ride quality. I'm willing to make the sacrifice.
When the time comes, I'll probably get the linear and try them out for a while. If it's too rough, I could always buy the progressive springs. Surely someone with the progressive combo will post eventually (if they haven't already) Time to search...

JICs Rock and Handle like on rails.
I'm 99% sure the rear spring in the Tein is progressive, but I could be wrong. Progressive = smooth ride, which the Teins are (and felts almost identical as to when I had the progressive JIC setup for a total of 18 miles)...
All Tein coilovers use linear springs. Jic no longer use's a progressive spring on any FM platform coilover (thank god, but knowing how they just tuned their sedan coilovers, I'm not surprised, sad).
I remember some1 posting that the JIC's looked like a universal kit, and that they didn't fit well and rattled a lot. Or was it the teins? Can anyone confirm this?...thanxxx
I have run the JIC's on my car for the past 4 months or so. I was happy with the setup at first. But my car developed a very bad understeer problem. I didnt know what it was until i checked out the shocks, and all 4 shocks were leaking oil out of the top.
This was supposed to be a custom flt-a2 setup built just for my car. The spring rates were 22kg front, and 20kg rear. And the dampers were upgraded to handle the spring rates. I drove this on the street and the ride wasnt even that bad. But I recently swapped on 16/16kg springs from Tanabe and put on dust boots to try to keep dirt/rocks/pieces of tire from getting in the shocks.
Looks like i need to have them rebuilt. Yippee.

You know, I hate to say it, but I wouldn't be suprised if JIC pulled a "let's not and say we did" with your order. I wouldn't be suprised if you received the normal dampers, but who knows... My experience with them has been very inconsistent, and nobody seems to know their product over there.

dang, I have read alot of horror stories about jic. I dont understand y they cant get there act togeather especually for a 2g suspension set up. It should fit perfect and have everything.
