Default Tein basic damper

I have been looking for information on different suspension setups. I've read some of the threads in this forum but cant find specifics on the TEIN BASIC DAMPER setup. I want to have a good ride but I'm not afraid of having stiff suspension. Not back breaking stiff though. Have any of you used this setup? what do you think?

Curious to know what specifics haven't been discussed in the previous threads?

I have never seen a system talked about by so many, and yet to have been bought by so few. From all accounts(my own personal opinion), it sounds like one of, if not the best option out there for the money. No other coilover is close moneywise, and it is supposed to be stiffer than stock, but less stiff than the softest setting on the Tein Flexes that everyone seems to love. Sounds good to me, especially for that price.

well um,..........Tanabe Sustec Pro S-0C "Type II" $840
Tanabe Sustec Pro S-0C $924

Spring rates are unknown and if you read the companies description of the product, they say allot about comfort. Leaving me to think they would be like the HKS LS system, to soft for me, but that's conjecture on my part. But adding to that thought is the fact that one of the tuner 350Z's recently shown in Road&Track had Tanabe coilovers on it, they said it bottomed out all the time and didn't perform very well, that was the jest of their comments.

No known advertiser here list's them on their web site(s), but do check with them to see if they carry them un-advertised.

Here's a company web link to read about them.

Leave it to Gsedan35 to find the one suspension system that I left out, lol. Haven't heard of it, they appear too "soft" for me, but still a worthy option I guess. Bet noone has these either, heh. Glad to know they are out there though, gives an inexpensive comfortable (only from what I read) option.

Now, find another one.......heh.

I've been doing a lot of research lately on coilovers for my Z and the Tein Basic is at the top of my list so far. Here's why.

I want something stiffer than stock, but not by much. The stock rates are approximately 350# front, 415# rear. The spring rate on the Basic's are 504# front and rear. This is not a huge difference over stock, which will yield a decent ride on the street. Coilovers like the Tein Flex or the JIC's have rates of 671# front and rear. Great for the track, but way too stiff for my tastes on the streets.

My second choice are the HKS LS with spring rates of 460# F/R. The are almost twice the price of the Basic's but have adjustable dampning, which I will probably never use on the street.

Third choice would be the S-tune because I like the spring rates but I think they are way overpriced for a coil over that you cannot adjust for height or dampning.

I actually ended up buying the tein s tech springs. If I don't like them then I am going with full JIC but that won't be until late summer.

Why don't use just keep the S-Tech springs and change out the factory shocks to Tokico or Koni's when available? It's probably work out for most of us here...

Well, the konis are matched to the stock springs. I wouldn't mix and match dampers and springs, they should be designed together as a unit.

S Tech's are designed around stock struts, and since the S tech is a relatively mild spring, should be just fine with the Koni

I know what you are saying Adam(Z1), but I would want an exact match. Those are close, but no cigar. Those S-Techs do include a 0.7 front and 0.6 rear drop, which is not an exact fit with the stock springs. Maybe just me, but if I get springs and dampers, I want them made for each other.

anyone knows if you can use 350Z's S-tech springs on G35c? will it be same drop as 0.7 front and 0.6 rear?

I noticed S-tech has different springs for G35c and 350z... but the drops are different, thou the spring rate are different right?

Some things for you to know for your thinking process. The G35 coupe and Z use the same OEM spring rates. Their sturt valving is was makes them very different. So, then we enter the clouded waters of how these companies tune/setup their products.

Take a look at these aftermarket coupe springs, examine their spring rates. (All Tein rates are final rates, per tech support).

Tein S. Tech front 358lbs rear 274lbs
Tein H. Tech front 324lbs rear 263lbs
Eibach Pro-Kit front 229/337 rear 274/463

Now same springs, but specific to the 350Z, see the difference, the Z rate's make allot more sense, not that I'd ever run progressive springs myself.

Tein S. Tech front 386lbs rear 402lbs
Tein H. Tech front 358lbs rear 375lbs
Eibach 350Z front 296/384 rear 316/421
