Not a good idea. It will make your car a lot more bouncy, may even worse the handling.

Traded the ol Civic in on a Z huh? Ever heard the old saying that you should use the right tool for the job? You may need an extreme example. How about, Don't use a hammer to open a window. Or maybe Don't use a fly swatter to kill a rhino. Or even the classic, Don't cut your springs, buy the ones that do what you want in the first place.

You will have done the labor to remove them, just save youself the labor to cut them and spend 200 bucks for a set of Eibachs, after spending 30K for the car you owe to yourself to do it right.

you should be shot for even suggesting such a ricer modification, not only being a big time safety issue, but hey, it is your car, your money

You guys are such girls, if he wants to cut his springs let him.

I have had lots of car with cut spring because they just didn`t sit low enough, and my last car wasn`t a civic it was a 2002 Benz...

If you can get your hands on a set of springs with dead coils they are the best to cut. In the spring when I take my car out of storage you can bet whatever I put on it, if they`re are not low enough I will cut them. But the best alternative is to go with a coilover. Even ground control makes a cheap one you can use. But then again I love the shitty ride and serious drop so I may be the wrong guy to ask.

none of the coilovers have enough of a drop for me i think teins coilover have only a maximun drop of 1.2 inch in the rear. for all you haters in this forum im trying to lower my car more than what my 200 dollar eibach springs (which some people think i cant even afford), lowered the car. oh yeah and another thing the reason i want it lower than it is is because i put 20's on the car and it raised it alot. anyways i can tell that all you haters are too smart for this forum maybe you should start your own.

i think you have the inverse of the appropriate idea.

by the way, maybe eibachs are not what you need. there are coilover setups that lower the car almost 3 inches. that is lower than is driveable.

Well if you rasied it because you put 20's on it is because you didn't compensate for the added wheel diameter by getting thinner tires, in which case you have less space between the tire and wheel well, and if the wheels are out even with fender it will be even closer and the Eibachs will barely make it so wanting to lower it even more would not be good.

While you are at it just get some wide 15" rims that stick out and then you can lower it 3-4 inches

having money does not equal having sense.

just because a person can afford a 2002 Mercedes Benz doesn't make them understand that cutting springs is NOT in any way, shape, or form the appropriate way to lower a vehicle.

The appropriate way to do it is with coilovers, which have an adjustable ride height. Adjustable coilovers are available from a wide variety of manufacturers. Check them out.

This, of course, doesn't even begin to address the aesthetic and handling issues with lowering, dropping, or "slamming" a car. I can assure you, that if you're dropping it beyond 1.5 or 2 inches, you're making huge handling sacrafices just to get the "bling bling" look you're after.. Not to mention the fact that it looks disgusting, but that's a personal opinion, of course.. but hey, you put 20 inch rims on the car. We clearly disagree in the aesthetics department anyway.

btw, before you drop your car, make sure your massive 20 inch wheels don't rub on the fender or wheel well. You're obviously prepared to make handling and ride sacrifices for looks, but you won't be happy when the fender tears up your new tires. Check into camber adjustment kits as well, you'll need it.

cliffs notes:

- Cutting springs is ridiculous, no matter whether it's a civic or a ferrari
- If you insist on dropping your car, do it with coilovers.
