just about ready to improve the ride of the z
dont really wanna lower the car and definately dont wanna have to deal with camber issues
i think the s-techs dont lower it enough to worry about camber so i guess i would go with those
will i see a big difference in handling if i get sways AND springs
as opposed to just sways?
from searching i decided on hotchkicks (sp?)
i remember reading posts about ppl that had springs THEN got sways
but never sways THEN springs

I would never upgrade springs alone. From my past experience when upgrading springs alone w/stock shocks; the shocks tend to wear out much quicker therefore needing replacement. Might as well get some Koni's while you are at it.
My Cusco sways made a significant differance. Less body roll in the corners, better turn-in, better steering feedback, just a better overall feeling.

plenty of people here have upgraded their springs and not shocks
ive heard that doing that may hurt the life of stock shocks
but how much quicker are we talking here?...and whats the reason for it?

even if it reduces the stock shock life, might as well get the use out of it before it's worn. (at least that's my thinking - especially if you dont want to spend the additional 600+ right away)
With my money, I would upgrade the sways, then get the springs later after you get some more wear out of the stock shocks. The reason why I say this is that you can get coilovers later after you have used the stock setup for a while. The sways will give you an upgrade for now, then you can replace the stock setup with coilovers.
