Default Why are people selling Z above book price?

I pretty much have my mind set on getting a used Z and I been doign a lot of research lately. Why are private sellers selling the Z $2,000-$3,000 above book value?

The standard, performance and enthusiast model all have a book price of around $19k by but I have yet to find one less then $22k.... I know Kelly Blue Book prices aren't exact but they usually hit it with +/- $1,000 within what the cars usually sell for.

Are Zs really that hard to find that people sell them above book value?

Because this car is sooo amazing! It holds it's value very well as well as hard to find. Once they hit the lot, and they're in good shape, they don't sit for very long. For the same reason the dealer mark up on the Evo 8 is 10k over sale value in Vanc. WA. They know darn well people will buy them at any price.

Default slow car sales

I have been shopping for a car for the past 2-3 months as car sales are very slow. Several dealerships have told me that they have purposely elevated the prices as they know there are many people who dont care or are clueless.

eg 2002 bmw m3 asking price 42K dealer accepted an offer of 36K

2004 nissan roadster asking price 36K accepted a price of 31K

so dealers are in bad shape specifically in PA

good luck....

kbb doesnt take in to count what the car's "street value", hell if eveything was kbb value i could by a 98 toyota supra for like $18K and you can't find one less than $27K.

Look at NADA, i think its more accurate.

And don't forget the most basic reason: asking price is NOT selling price!

If they ASK $19K, someone wants it for $17K. There must always be room to negotiate.

I traded my 03 track with only 11,000, BorlaTD, and Volk TE37 for 22,500. I took it in the @#%$ because I'm to lazy to post it on ebay. The dealer had it sold before the ink was dry.
