Default Cracking the customer whip

Question for you dealer savvy people..and actual Nissan dealers also~

I ordered my Z October 5th, and was told it could be anywhere from 2 to 3 months wait. I called my guy up mid-november and he said it would probably be closer to 3 months (early January) after all was said and done...which is fine, I'm relatively good at being patient -_-
What I want to know is, what CAN my dealership tell me about the car? Surely they have to know in advance when they'll receive inventory. I doubt that one day a truck shows up and they're like "oh cool, we got some cars today"
Production number or a VIN? What information can the dealer dig up, that I can make him find to earn that deposit?

Thanks

well, depending on the knowledge level of your dealer personell. they can initially give you build month, then the computer will tell you approximate delivery by month. then the closer(within a month or weeks depending on the line) the date of the week of delivery. they can also call their zone inventory rep when the car makes it to the states to see where it is(port, rail, truck). i have gotten burned a few times, railheads get backed up and cars of course get lost...not often though

I ordered my car at the end of October. After a couple week, my sales person called me with production number, production date, and ETA.
ETA is around January.

Mine actually did just show up. I ordered it Sept. 6th, and it was supposed to be in Dec. 6th, but it got here Nov. 18th. My dealer said it came on a truck full of Infiniti's, even though they are a Nissan only dealership. So, my Christmas came a little early, and I love it. I got a GT Roadster 6sp in Magnetic Black with Burnt Orange seats. The MB looks so cool with the metal flake!

Dealer finally got back to me. I guess our factory in Japan must be pretty backed up. Even with an October 5th order date, looks like my car wont be in until January 20th give or take a week
Has anybody else that put in a straight up order had delays? Or did yours come in when expected?

They said they couldn't find anything about the car until after it's production date. And then wouldn't know much about it's delivery schedule until it gets off the boat in California. That would be logical right? Or are they pissing in my ear?
This is highly disappointing

Well, I ordered mine Oct 15 and was given a delivery date of Jan 31. I figure that was worst case scenario but it's looking more like the best case scenario. My dealer hasn't told me squat since I put down my deposit so your experience isn't out of the ordinary.

I ordered mine Sept. 24th, and they originally told me it should be here end of November. That didn't happen and it got pushed to December, though they did say it should be here on the 23rd, which could also mean 5 days before or 5 days after. They were also able to tell me a build date and estimated delivery date, along with the VIN# and order#. My saleswoman told me she would provide me with updates, but I had to ask for every single one of them, so don't be afraid to pester!

I'm in pretty much the same situation. Put my deposit down mid-October. They put the order in late October. And the only thing he's been able to tell me (after I nag him every 2 weeks) is that it is ordered..the order number, the production date is 'November' and delivery is Dec or Jan (worst case). Can't say I'm thankful that I'm not the only one.but seems the same..

Today I went to the dealer and talked to my Interner sales director. He showed me the paperwork for my car. November production and still January delivery.

Just got word that my Z will be in the week of Jan 23rd 2006. Ordered mid-late Oct '05. Little more than a month. Almost beter off this way to save a little on insurance while it sits in the garage for the end of the winter season.

I *think* I have a firm delivery date for my car finally..
January 16th. Sometimes I wonder why I ordered the car. I suppose it wouldn't be too hard to locate a DB 6MT enthusiast with SGs, KPs, F&TMs already on some lot; and I could have had it months ago
Oh well, the places around here seem to just have Bases and Tourings (not MT) so maybe it was worth it. This week needs to hurry up and be gone!

Well wonders will never cease I suppose! My car's in! Of course the bastids called too late...so I didn't have time to get all my stuff in order Going back tomorrow morning though.
I still went by and did the tire kick stuff. It's so pretty I wanted to cry It's also neat because all the protective plastic is still on. 8 miles on the odometer, so I got to 'open' in in a way. That new car smell should be an icecream flavor imo. I doubt I'll sleep well tonite!
