Default Trading my 06 for an 07?

Hey guys, recently I've been contemplating trading my 2006 Enth for an identical 2007 leftover that my dealership currently has. What would be a fair trade in value for my 06 and also a fair price for the 07?

Here are the specs on my car:

2006 Enthusiast
7,800 Miles
A/T
Perfect condition

Any help is appreciated

Your car plus $4,500 cash should do it.

You will pay through the nose if you do this. It's not the dealership's fault you bought an '06. It's no one's "fault" really, just the update came a year after you bought. Zs are pretty soft right now as the body style has been around for 6 years and an '08 (or better yet, a leftover '07) can be had at a decent price. They'll take your car in, but don't expect more than one or two grand back of wholesale book. You have to consider the customer who will walk onto the lot an eventually buy your '06. Sorry to say it, but enthusiasts who know what they're buying won't pay top dollar for an '06 when an '07 with the HR motor can be had for a few grand more.

If you reeeeeally want an an HR equipped Z, find a leftover '07, or search high and low (they'll be hard to find) for a used '07. That way you'll be able to get the car you're buying at a pretty good price. You'll still take a hit on your '06, but at least SOME of that will be offset by the good deal you get on the '07. Either way, unless you put a large down on the '06, your payoff will without a doubt be higher than the $2k back of wholesale the dealership will offer you for your car. Just realize that if you decide to do it, you WILL be buried and you'll be paying big time for an HR motor. Just make sure you'll be willing to live with the money you'll be losing and you won't be doing the same thing when the '09 or '10 Z arrives.

Ouch... But, true. I do not have much time to do search for you exactly how much what bruddahmatt has said translates into, but my gut feeling tells me $4,500 (suggested by david) is optimistic. You get tax credit on your trade in, but you will have to pay the other one time fees such as dealership fee, document fee and if there are any fees associated to loans (sorry I cannot help in that department since I have never had a car payment, only way I buy cars is cash). If I were you I would just live with 06. I know the feeling of being inferior to the new HR engine that gets all praise, but so what. Your 06 must be still plenty of fun. Just hold onto it until the all new Z comes out. I am sure you can beat up the dealership on the price of a new 08 (or 07) Z or negotiate well on the trade-in of your 06, but you won't be able to do both.

Loving it so far -- it was defnitely worth it IMO. I ended up getting the 08 (Enth) for 31k OTD and got 19.5k for my trade.
