Default Approach to Selling 03 6MT Touring Z?

Just realized this is in the wrong forum; I need more sleep. Sorry!

----------

I'm in the mindset of selling my 03 Z (6MT Touring SS/Blk leather, 55K miles) and looking into a newer Z, possibly an 06 and doing some work to it.

My 03 Z has been in two accidents:

First Incident: I was backing up in a local parking lot and was hit at low speed by lady on cell phone. Cosmetic damage. Scratches/scrapes on rear bumper only.
Fix: Rear bumper painted.

Second Incident: I was driving on RT80 W and looked down for a second, truck in front of me slammed on brakes for whatever reason, and long story short I wound up hitting his rear. Cosmetic damage to front bumper, both headlight housings lights cracked, front left fender slightly bent near headlight housing.
Fix: Front bumper replaced (also because of rock chips), both headlamps replaced with new OEM parts, front left fender reshaped and painted.

While the damages were fixed, and the car now looks almost new (runs fine, no mechanical problems that I know up, great interior condition, garaged during winter, etc.)... how do I go about selling this car for a decent amount? So far the only offer I've gotten after posting on craigslist was a wholesale offer for ~$11,500 or so.

I've never sold a car privately, so any help would be appreciated. If anyone is interested, I can post pictures.

Take it to Carmax and see what they will give you for it. That will be a fairly good indicator of value, then add a thousand or so and put it up on the autotrader etc. If the carmax offer is to your liking, just give them the keys. I have sold two cars to them in the past and its painless.

Only problem is that I'm in NJ, would you say it's worth driving up to CT to get it checked out? I also have an 05 VW Touareg V8 I'm looking to sell along with the Z...

I agree with gimps... Car is worth as much or slightly less -
read 15K. That said, the market may force you to trade-in.
A private sale is paramount, as a dealership will give you
more "value" for cash, but you will have to locate a buyer.
I would start by fousing on the positives, and ignore the small
issues for now. Without seeing the car, make sure it always
looks clean both inside and out. Put a nice for sale graphic
on the glass with your contact info - i.e. an email address.

If you can generate enough interest, you are bound to find
a real buyer.

Advertising. Advertising, Advertising.

This is one advantage that a dealership has that you do not. The more potential interest in the car, the better the offers.

Private sellers also have another disadvantage: you do not finance.

That's what banks, credit unions, loan companies, etc, are for.

And actually, dealerships don't finance either. They just handle the paperwork for the bank, credit union, loan company, etc. Even the manufacturer's fincacing is handled by seperate "loan companies" like GMAC and FOMOCO Credit.
