Dealers will sometimes allow you to exchange a car for another of the same or even something totally different, usually if there is a legitimate gripe with the car your originally purchased, so you got kind of lucky. Getting them to totally unwind the deal and walk away would have been more difficult. You usually need a heavy-duty gripe to pull that off...proof the car was misrepresented in some way, such as non-disclosed body repair work or something serious along those lines.

I was merely throwing that out there in contention to the "you drove off in it, you're screwed" mentality being thrown around in here. That's false, and anyone trying to tell you otherwise is full of it.
I would have raised hell over the transmission issue or whatever was happening anyway...
