Is this a fair trade
bad in a sense that they lose a tiny bit more power as it goes through the drivetrain, and that you don't have a man pedal. if you can get past that, they are great, the triptronic mode gives you full control over the revs and shifting, rev matches on downshift etc.
if it suits you, get it. stickshift purists will give you a hard time, but if you can keep up with them or out run them, who cares?

Like has been mentioned already, sell the bike first, sell the truck, find the Z in your price range (likely need to add some cash to get anything without a salvage title).
Haha, agreed. I bought a Ranger as a beater/toy hauler in the fall. 2002 3.0 4x4 extended cab with 55k miles and I paid $2700. Good luck getting $5k for yours. Pretty high mileage on the R1 too, I would guess you could get $5500 for it considering it is a good time to sell bikes.

yea its done been said and im not sure the OP is still following but.. come on... that trade is not going to happen.. rangers sell cheap.. the bike is heavily used.. the years on both are pretty bad for considering trade on a Z
I paid 9200 for my rebuilt Z over a year ago.. it only has 48k miles.. an amazing car..
but yea i wouldn't make that trade with you.. and mine has a rebuilt..
it is a good time to sell a bike i suppose but anyone with sense would buy a bike in the winter.. getting a bike is nothing but for fun.. its not a wise financial move.. bikes resell bad.. thats why its only wise to buy a used one and never go new.. (only fools do that)
as for the ranger.. i mean come on its a ranger... heh..
my advice.. sell both.. then hunt down a bargain Z..
but tbh.. if this Z would be your primary means of transport.. i would highly suggest not to..
I own 3 vehicles.. one is a Z
if i could only have one vehicle.. it would not be a Z
as fun as they are.. they are not a very logical selection for someone with only one means of transport
