Question Which warranty company?

hello guys, im purchasing a 2007 daytona blue 350z touring m/t with 49k miles soon from carmax.
at this moment, its being transferred from maryland to hartford ct. i live around an hour from hartford.

they gave me an option of getting an extended service plan/ warranty up to 75k miles from them and i would pay a $50 deductible but i would also get $50 discount which results to $0 if i go to them with an issue with my car. i would just have to pay around 16-20 dollars extra a month that will be added on to my montly payments for the car.

my issue is that i dont want to have to travel an hour away just for a little problem i would get that could come up with the 350z.

is there a way i can get a warranty from Nissan the company themselves?

it would be easier to go to a nissan dealership near me.

ive also heard bad things about carmax's warranty.

AND YES i do plan on modding. is there any dealerships that are mod friendly? around norwich? new london? groton? waterford?

even if i find a nissan dealership thats not mod friendly, i can just hope to get modifications from NISMO themselves. i just want to mod.

if i have no choice but to get a warranty and no mod in order to not void it, ill be fine with no mods for another 10-15 or 20k more miles. the point of the warranty is to protect me of any high costs since this is a used car.

sorry, ive gotten new cars all my life and now when getting a used one, its a bit nerve wrecking.

thanks for the help guys! and sorry for the long a** post=]

once the car is trouble free for the next 10-20k miles i drive it, thats the flag telling me that modding will be fine. i just dont want any unexpected issues for the first 10-15k miles i drive it and have to pay full price.

the shortest warranty would probably be best.

any recommendations?

Just me,but I never do warranties. The CARMAX warranty will probably restrict you to where you can take the car.You are planning to do mods...nothing but trouble with them arguing they will not honor because you did....to your car.
Treat the purchase as you bought from a private party.Drive it.Check it out.Carfax..
If ok,drive off & have fun fixin up you new Z!
Warranties in general are a racket.

I got a warranty from The dealer when I got my 06. Nothing was covered. When my OC was diagnosed rather than replace the engine they refunded my money.

I got another warranty and when a VVT sensor went out and they refused to fix it I demanded a refund. F00k warranty companies.

The cars had 2 owners and the last owner only drove it for like 7k miles. I just wana be assured for the first couple years before i know i can start modding. Im not gonna mod during the time i have the warranty of course. I just wanted to know if i can buy a warranty from NISSAN so i can just go to their dealerships instead of all the way to carmax which is an hour away. And also when i get nissans warranty, nismo modifications will already fill my joy. With nissans warranty, i can mod with nismo parts and still keep my warranty. Does that seem like a good idea? Im not asking for too much.

And also e30, you look like you got a hefty amount of mods, have you had any problems? Issues? Major repairs because of modifications?

screw third party warranties. just pay to have the car mechanically inspected by a trusted mechanic before you buy it, and pay any repairs out of pocket down the road.

CarMax warranty lets u take it directly to CarMax or u can take it to other Nissan dealers. Just have to show them the warranty card. I got the warranty primarily for the transmission incase it starts having synchro issues. But then again, we do have the CD009 transmission so just taking extra precautionary steps.

like any warranty, what you mod is what is not covered.

You change your intake, then everything else is fine but the intake coverage.

No issues due to mods. The "only" real issue I have is oil consumption.

even though my intake is coming from NISMO? which is made by nissan?

i always thought that modifications made from your car's manufacturer wouldnt void your warranty?

like if i had gotten TRD mods for my toyota, it would void my warranty right?

it seems kind of pointless for your own manufacturer to create modifications for your car but if you do install them, you void your warranty.....

now e30cabrio, do you DD your car? or track it?

i thought some modifications would help your car breath better which = better mileage(maybe not much)

did your driving style get more aggressive because of the modifications? lol

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnuson–Moss_Warranty_Act

From what I understand, if you mod your car, you don't directly void your warranty. Your car is still covered, but the aftermarket parts you install are not. However, if the issue/damage is proved to have resulted from the aftermarket parts you installed, then they won't fix the damage.

Sad how some warranty companies just refund you rather than fix your issues. I'm considering getting a refund on my aftermarket warranty since I doubt it'll be of any help =/

Warranties in general are a load of ********. Nissan denied my second transmission claim (2k after the first was replaced) because of my aftermarket clutch. They simply said "go ahead and sue us". While they have to prove that the part caused the damage, you have to take them to court first and they are aware that it's generally not worth it.

I will never purchase another Nissan vehicle because of the lack of support. There are many Nismo parts that will void warranties, and none of them are all that great to begin with ('cept body kit).

Long story short, I wouldn't buy a warranty at all. They sell warranties because they make money from them; end of story.
