Default Looking to start doing some track driving

I recently drove a Lamborghini Gallardo at the Autobahn down in Joliet (Groupon event) and lovde the track driving. I really want to do track events next year but don't know the route I should go. I currently have an 08 Mustang Bullitt. My dilemma is that I've had 2 Z's in the past and they're handling/power is just phenomenal. I don't know if I should trade in the Stang for a Z or do some upgrades to make the Stang track ready. I'd have to get new wheels/tires, rotors, pads and s/s brake lines (to start).
I think if I got an 07 Grand Touring I'd be set for at least the first year to do some track driving as that car comes with good wheels/tires and the Brembo brakes.
I was originally gonna build the Mustang for 1/4 mile racing but the road courses are just so much more fun and challenging.
What do you guys think I should do?

Lamborghini Gallardo is an excellent choice. Go for it.

What type of "track driving"? Road race, AutoX, etc.? Also, do you have a certain organization/classification that you're interested in? Are you looking to be competitive or just have fun? Do you also intend for this to be your daily driver, or is it going to be a dedicated track car.

It would help to know some of your goals and what type of driving you're looking to do.

I'm looking to do Road Course events at the Autobahn Country Club (Joliet, IL) and Blackhawk Farms Raceway for non-competitive racing. Since I am a novice I'm just in it to have fun and learn right now. This would be a summer only car as I have a Jeep for the winters, but I do plan on driving this car to and from work during the summer.
Gallardo is a bit out of my price range.

Just my .02, but I'd look for an inexpensive Z so that you can throw money at it where you want to make it track ready. I recently bought an 05ZR and after looking around on the forum wish that I would've waited a bit. If I would've picked up an 03 for $8-$10K and bought the Z1 built block plus a momentum turbo kit I'd be set. Reliable 400whp all day long. Again, just my .02. Good luck! Be safe!

Over 13,000 posts. Congratulations!
It's a shame they are all sarcastic, demeaning and of absolutely NO value.
Thanks anyway

That's a tough call without really knowing what you can sell/trade the stang for, etc. - but... it's a given that most folks are going to lose money in the whole transaction process of swapping vehicles. However, for the type of driving that you seem most interested in and your comments in the original post, it sounds like you would be more comfortable in a Z than the stang.

My honest opinion would be to NOT get the track version, but to instead get a base version. Then swap the LSD for a real LSD instead of relying on a VLSD that wasn't that great when it was brand new. Also, I would then put the brakes that you'd prefer - Akebono 370Z Track, OEM Brembo, StopTech, etc. Finally, for mixed non-competitive track and DD use during the summer, I'd say replace the aging springs/struts if they are in question.

Other than that, maybe buy a square setup of wheels/tires for track days so that you can have some nice tires for track days but not wear them out driving to work all of the time. The square setup is so that you can rotate them easily and get a little more life out of them - tires seem to eat through my money pretty fast.

There are definitely guys on here with a lot more track knowledge and experience than me, so maybe someone else will chime in with advice - but that's how a poor boy from SC would look at it.
