Purchasing a 2006 350z with high mileage (165k)
double bingo. Happened with me
I got mine from a stealership for 9k. It was a 2.5 hour drive and I was even gonna "think about it" but I really wanted it. They gave me the old "2 other people are trying to buy it" and I knew right away it was a tactic, but I didn't want to chance it just in case. Called my wife and convinced her to let me buy it same day. Looking back, I don't regret it because she's a solid car. Came with NO bruises or problems. I may have caused her some bruises and problems, but she still gets me from a to b without a problem.
If you want your next Z or even G to be a long term dependable car that won't break every 5k miles, you need to do a lot of research. I spent 3 months researching cars until I knew what I wanted. I chose the HR engine (07-08) not because it has more factory power, not because it "doesn't burn oil." I chose it because that engine and trans was the best of the 350's (imo). Reliable, durable, built to last.
If you want 400 buff horses (donutmedia), go with the DE non rev up. You'll hear back and forth all day whether the rev up is good or not, but in the end you won't know until after you bought it. People can be scammy and do a little "clean up" and say it doesn't burn oil when it really does. Then that's more money down the drain.
if you just intend to do bolt ons, get an HR. It may not have as much a dramatic MO POWUH BABEH market as the DE, but its still there.
In the end, it's one of two choices:
do I want a track car? Or do I want a daily?
If daily, you can still do just fine with a DE. It just requires a little more attention to maintenance, plus most you find will have higher miles than the HR.
THAT'S MY

The plan is to have a daily with decent power via NA. Mostly for functional mods and show. Planning to keep the car as long as possible. When I say settle, I meant that an automatic is probably my best choice for the overall picture.
Summary of goals: Daily. Reliable. Decent power. Fun factor (varies from person to person of course).
May go air suspension/wheels/body kit in the future, but wanting to stay OEM with small mods that “should have came from factory”.
I think for the long haul, the 07-08 model would be best for you based on your intentions. Everything in the HR is upgradable. It just has fewer options than the DE, but for what you want, definitely the HR will suit you. It's a great platform to learn and work on. Just get ready to immidiately change the gallery gaskets if you decide to get this. Factory ones are cheap paper crap and Z1 Motorsports has updated them to last beyond the life of the car.

I am patient so to you it may seem like it will never happen. Looks like I get beat on both ends of the stick. Others have said don’t rush and I wasn’t planning to, now you say it’ll never happen. Good thing I’m optimistic.
Show as in non ricey if I have to clarify.

havent seen one 'done right' in a decade ...
Dont get me wrong - I love the Z33 ... but it's not a show car - it's time has expired and the window has closed

Went to check out the g35 and it needs cosmetic work like he stated. Passenger fender has a dent and some rust. Front bumper torn near that fender. Interior seats are cracked and dash has tears throughout. Engine seemed to run strong. If I settle on a good deal with the guy then I’ll have a Nissan mechanic look over it.
