I've never done it to my Z but have done it to several other cars and never seen a problem yet. Why, having a problem?

i think you would have to the same, just cover up the electronics and the air filter before you do it.

Default Washing/Cleaning Engine

I use 303 (soap) diluted with distilled water (engine cold) let it sit (10-15 minutes) and then I use one of those 2 gallon bug/weed sprayers (lowes) pump it up and rinse the engine off with distilled water. Do not use a high pressure water hose!

The I blow dry it with a shop vac with the engine running. No water spots this way. Last step is wipe down as much as you can with a Quick Detailer to make it shine and touch up the hoses with Vinelex.

Looks Great! Nothing but compliments!

Default Distilled Water

Hey! It takes approximately 2.5 gallons @ about $.75 per gallon you're talking $2.25 every couple of months! 1/2 gallon for the 303 and two gallons for the rinse of the engine!

You do not need much!

Default Engine Bay Cleaning

I was in a hurry when I replied to your post (at work). As I reread it, I should have said you will need one of those spray bottles to mix the 303 soap & distilled water. Spray that on your engine bay let sit for a few minutes and then rinse with distilled water.

Then blow dry with a shop vac & let the engine run as well! Distilled water leaves no unsightly residue unlike regular tap water!

Side note: I heard that silicone is deadly to the MAF (mass airflow sensor). If you detail your bay, be careful.
