Its a heck of a risk.

Generally the wheels are OK because the tires ride the rails, and the tires stick out farther than the wheels. You may have a problem with the mud flaps. Also keep in mind that ground clearance is only 5-inches.

Why risk it?

I can't help but ask: Why does your Z have an itchy bottom?

Sorry, couldn't let that pass. In my limited car wash experience, the height isn't the only issue, so is width. Just getting the car thru the darn rails is tough. I wouldn't risk scratching the wheels and scuffing the tires in those things either. If you ask me, I would rather drive a dirty car that I would later detail myself than damaging the paint and godknowswhatelse.

All depends upon the carwash. I have taken my track model z through a carwash with no problems, another time I was lazy and sent it through the carwash it ended up costing me a new splash guard. keep in mind although the replacement splash guard covered the damage, the body was still damaged underneith the spash guard.

If you must go to an automatic carwash, make sure its at least one that has someone working on site. My family used to have a gas station with a car wash in the back, and the biggest problem we had was with people not following directions. Sometimes cars would not put down their antennas, and the rollers would rip them off. In one case, the antenna got stuck in the roller and procedeed to scratch the hell out of the next car.

Other times we would get pickups that would come in with loose metal shavings and crap in their beds, which would get stuck in the wash fibers and scratch up the next car going through.

Granted these were both fairly rare occurances, but still, it could happen

there was a new car wash built in my area that dosent use a raily. it actually has a plastice rolling treadmill-like thing, where they drive the car on to it, and it moves it along. its pretty cool, and you dont have to worry about scratching rims or the body.
