I keep hearing to use this for water spots. Do u dilute or is there anything special to od when using? And will it mess up your paint at all? Seems alittle acidic

 

Try a 50/50 solution. Rub gently then rinse. And yes it will remove wax also. I have never had a adverse effect on clearcoat.

 

From all I've read, mild acid does not harm clearcoat or paint.

Vinegar is not too acidic.

If you mix it with water, I would use distilled so there are a minimal amount of minerals in the mixture. But you should be fine even at full strength...

 

I just used the Meguiers Clay bar kit and it took the water spots out pretty quick. The kit is VERY easy to use and can be had for $17

 

I keep reading about this Meguier's Clay bar thingy. It seems to remove everything from paint scuffs to rim scratches, to water spots. Is it really that good? Sounds like something I might have to pick up.

 

Waterspots need that acid wash as soon as you can! like what davidv said, 50/50 solution with water. I used this mixture with soap and water and it worked fine also. Just make sure that you are going to wax the paint after you are done!

I claybarred my car last november and it still has the glass like smoothness to my car. Well thats cause i wash my car every other week and use quick detailer every other day.

 

I'm bumping this thread to find out if the clay bar can be used on windows. I've been noticing unwashable waterstain on my mirrors and windows lately. So does the clay bar work on windows and is it safe?

yes it does,i tried it just for the hell of it and it took out all kind of crap that i couldnt get out before.makes the glass smooth as....well you know.

Wow, something that acutally takes waterspots out of windows? The steel wool didn't work for me.

 

 

Thats funny why? I didn't scratch a thing. And I didnt use it on paint.

 

What also works for waterspots or the tracks from windshield washers is rain-x if prepped properly- meaning you scrubbed the windshield with invisible glass beforehand.

 

Griots Garage has a great clay bar. Larger than the "hotel soap" size you get at your local autoparts store.

Meguiar's Scratch X can be used on windows, I have seen the Meguiar's training manager for New Zealand do this. Personally I wouldn't.

Rain-X or a similar rain dispersant all the way - it'll last for weeks and weeks!!! This stuff lifts everything off your windows and increases the visibility/clarity any weather and the obvious benefit is lowers the need to use your wipers in the rain as the water beads off the windows (I'm a bit of a worry coz I love to watch the water zoom up the windscreen as well - LOL). A good habit to get into is using the rain dispersant on your windows after waxing your car, also will remove any tiny bits of wax residue and the obvious smearing.

Back on topic, I use Clay Bar on other people's cars to remove water spots. I never have any water spots on my car. And yes, Clay Bar really is that good.

I use a few dabs of HydroFluoric acid. Gets them right out.

 

vinegar = a staple in any Filpinos diet

 

OK this might be a stupid question, but I was thinking of trying this but we have like 4 differen't vinegars. I know balsamic is out, but we have 2 reds one imported one not and a white vinegar which should I use?

 

Thank you for the insight. I have a bottle of Scratch-X at the house, but have never tried it on the windows. I also have a bottle of rain-X, but only used in on my last car. I never saw any reason to use it on the Z since I never drive it in the rain. I'll give it a shot since I already have some. Thanks again.

 

if you want to remove soap just use Dawn dishwasher detergent (the red one).
