is there an alternative that i can do myself that would give me the same results as wet sanding? anything i can use and do by hand?

 

a PC can achieve very good results.

 

a rotary buffer with an aggressive compound is the only thing that will correct a finish to the level that wetsanding would be able to. A PC can remove some scratches, but if you've determined that wetsanding is indeed necessary, a PC won't be able to polish down to that level
