Anbody ever used a Clay Bar?
Ok so I just bought a claybar and some polish/lubricant for my Z. I have been reading about using a claybar to remove all surface contaminants before waxing. I have never used one of these and wanted to know if anybody had any tips, tricks or experience with them.
Thanks.
Thanks.
The lube stuff that comes with it is a waste of money, but since you already bought it might as well use it (warm, soapy water works just as good). Just lube up one body panel at once and lightly run the clay over the entire surface and buff it out with a cotton rag. After you're done with a panel fold the bar and knead it out. Throw the bar away when you're done with the car...some people say it can be used again, but keep in mind all that grit and contams from the paint are now in the bar. Don't use liquid wax unless you're really lazy, and I reccomend a nice paint cleaner after the clay bar and before the wax. P21S or Pinnacle Wax are my favorite. Good luck.
I used it on my Stealth in the Dr Bonz Zaino Experiment Thread (if you search you'll see it with pics) back in July 02. I also used it on the Z when I got it in Sept. You can see that thread also if you do a search. There is a full write up.

If you're going to use clay, do yourself a favor and find a crank-type pasta roller. Something like this: http://www.desiredcreations.com/howT...AtlasMaint.htm
Rather than spending lots of time "shaping" the clay, use the roller to make a perfect pancake. After you do one section of the car, fold the pancake in half (dirty-side in) and run it through the machine again. You can do this over & over. It cuts my claying time down drastically.
