What car care products do you use?
My Brickyard Touring is my *first* new car *ever* and I want to keep her looking great. I just received my Blackfire new car kit in the mail and wonder if anyone uses this product? Is it easy to use? Does it REALLY do what they say it does? Any other products out there recommended? The Blackfire people recommended that I wait 60-90 days to wax my baby. I can't wait to shine her up (damn rain around here!) Just looking for opinions--maybe some of you car show people have some inside tips for me! I have been looking for some more micro-fiber towels too, where can I get them? THANKS!

The best towels I found are from Zaino. They are a great company to do business with and have fantastic products.
Enjoy
I too use zaino, but blackfire is a well known name as well, not a bad choice, bet 20$ you couldnt tell the difference, I bet 20$, no one on this forum could tell the difference. ever. only things to really worry about is ease of application because the results of both are going to be outstanding. I have no clue which is easier, only used zaino.
enjoy your new car.

I use Meguiars clay bar, 3M imperial hand glaze and show car wax. Klasse sealant glaze and Blitz one grand wax. I like the shine from any sort of combination of these products more than Zaino. I use the 3M wax if I ever run out of the Blitz since I can just run to a auto parts store and pick it up.
I use Zaino wash, polish (Z2, Z5 for fine scratches), and gloss spray (Z7).
Have heard Blackfire is great though - you'll find fans on both sides.
My Zaino ensemble cost about $80.
I dry with 100% cotton towels (the lint, the lint) but there was an earlier thread where everybody recommended the Absorber (it's like a synthetic chamois), so I went out to WalMart and got one for $10. Can't wait to use it! But probably not this weekend - can't waste a 3-day weekend on washing and waxing (takes like 2 hours).

You mean your hubby doesn't wash and wax the car for you? Does he at least help out or do you prefer to spend some quality time with your car?
I always volunteer to wash my fiance's car....a Saab 9-5 Aero. Loved that Turbo!!

I prefer to do it myself!!!
His truck is a work truck (construction) so it is TRASHED ALL THE TIME. I used to change my own oil in my last car (91 eclipse)--tires, fluids, etc. Don't think I'll be doing that to this car except checking the levels of all fluids etc. My dad was big into his daughter knowing how to do that stuff so I didn't have to rely on any man! He made me take all 4 tires off my mom's truck and put them back on before I could leave the house the first day I got my license! I didn't appreciate that back then, but I do now! (I also like to build things and use my husbands power-tools, saws drills airguns, when he is not around to tell me not to use them! teehee--HANDY-GIRL)
Again, thanks for the advice on products! I will be out washing her this weekend!

) - now I wash HIS Prelude so he doesn't have to take it to the carwash. The only time he helped me was the first time I Zaino'd - I made him read me all the instructions as I was doing it.Plus I am so perfectionist and obsessive that he would never see all the little spots and streaks that I see.
p.s. jinxxycat you sound pretty cool, I wish I could be more mechanical but I don't know who would teach me.

Go to Wall-Mart or Home Depot and pick up those yellow flannel towels, they work awesome for buffing out wax or glaze. Many people don't know this, but some of those cotton towels that advertise 100% cotton aren't really 100% cotton, they government says they can have up to 6% (or something like that) of polyester and still say that it is 100% cotton. The only way to tell is by doing the burning test.
My favorite products to use are 3M Imperial Hand Glaze and
1 Grand Blitz Carnuba Wax.
It is not a bad idea to wait maybe 30 to 60 days before you waxed the car. But if you really want to wax soon make sure you use Carnuba wax, it is better and safer for your car than the synthetic stuff.
check out this site, lots of great info.

one option for those with zaino that want it to be a little less intense, I dont use the ZFX, and prefer it, wash it at night, after dinner, wax it, let it sit in the garage over night, and the next morning buff it out. breaks it up, so your not doin it for 2 hours straight.
haha, my bf is a construction worker and his truck doubles as his work truck and it is totally nasty, it drives me up the wall. I let him wax my Eclipse one time, and never ever again will that happen, lol.
I used Blackfire last week and I love it, I am a typical Zainoholic but thought I would try this since it was a good price.

My dad taught me all the car stuff, even tightening fan belts etc, and after living out in LA on my own, I just taught myself the DIY stuff. It's amazing how much information you can get at Home Depot---try going in there on a Friday night around 8 or 9 in your pedal-pushers and high heels and see the sales guys scurry around to help you!!! Love being a girl, I tell ya! WORK IT!
PS I actually looked into taking some automotive classes while I was out there, they have tons of stuff at the community colleges, I bet they offer beginner courses too! As a woman, it's great to have the knowledge, especially when taking your car into the shop, they can't just do whatever and rip you off if you know what is going on (kinda blows them away too! knowledge is power!)

Here is a link to a detailing column I write for ZFrenzy. It lists all of the stuff I use for EVERY aspect of detailing that I do. It also has links to where you can get all of it. BTW Ares. I just put on layers #27 and #28 of Zaino (Z-5 and Z-2) Friday and Sat. and I do it exactly like you. I rarely use the ZFX anymore. Just let it sit on the car overnight.
