Default 3M Products

well i finally got around to detailing the paint of my new Z this past weekend.

i washed her with dawn twice, then I spent some time with the claybar. this was the first time i used the claybar, and i was impressed with how much crap it cleaned from the paint above and beyond my wash.

with the claybar done, i started on the waxing procedure. i started with 1 coat of 3M imperial hand glaze. with only 1 coat of this stuff the car looked SO much better than before. I was already happy.

after that single coat was buffed out (and looking good) i went on to the 3M liquid wax. 1 coat made another huge difference. i was very happy.

being the obsessive person that i am, i did another coat about an hour after i had buffed the first coat of wax. i ended up with 3 coats total, and the car looks awesome.

the paint is as smooth as a baby's butt, and NOTHING sticks to the car! i even parked it outside the dirt track in talladega, alabama this past saturday night, and it wasnt half as dusty as the other cars nearby. even then, all i did was hose it off and it looked as good as new. the paint looks like its 6" deep when the sun hits it. its gorgeous.

maybe its not as good as zaino, but this is way cheaper and its stuff i can pick up at my local pep boys. im very happy with the results, but be forewarned- it will take a lot of time to do it right (as does everything) and you will probably develop an obsessive complex like me once you see the Z shine up like that!

ps: as a side note, orange blast wheel cleaner works VERY well for removing brake dust. spray, let it sit for 45sec-1min, hose off, and you're pretty much done.
