Default Help cleaning my rims

Hey guys i typed up a whole paragraph to explain my situation but i knew you guys didn't want to read all that. So below is summary of it in bullet point form.

-Nismo lmgt4's dirty help me figure out how to clean

-black glue like stuff, hazy black stuff, and little gravel chunks that are stuck to the rim.

-Tried scrubbing with microfiber towel and a sponge, didn't come off. These pics are all taken after i washed the rims using above procedure.

-Tried a flat head screw driver on all 3, it worked but scratched the well up pretty badly so i stopped.

-The black gooey stuff will come off if i simply scratch it with my nail, but it hurt my nail. I tried a brush and that didn't work either

-Black hazy stuff also came off with my nail, feels a bit sandy like sand paper.

- Gravel chunks are stuck to the wheel well with gods glue. Even with a flathead i had to use a lot of strength and theres residue left over.

-im thinking goo gone might work for the black glue like stuff but i dono what to about the rest.

-in the 4th picture you can see where i scratched my rims with a flathead, yes i know it was stupid but i was getting extremely frustrated.

Have you tried an all-purpose cleaner like simple green (mixed with water)?

Another route that should work is WD40 and some elbow grease.

use a powerball by mothers and use rubbing compound that is safe for your wheel coat, or you can just use mother's all metal polisher and just buff that sucker and see if it works

Try using tar remover first.

I'd go this route. Some "Bug & Tar Remover." The only problem I've had with this stuff (on painted car surfaces) is that the nice wax surface is pretty much ruined. So once the stuff's gone, I'd put on a coat or two of Wheel Wax to make sure there's some sort of finish on the wheel. That'll also help you clean your wheels in the future. I found Wheel Wax at Pep Boys.

The wheels look pitted to me. In other words the dirt is not superficial, but embedded in the paint. They are nice wheels, and worth painting.

It's hard to tell whether some of the contaminates have actually etched in to the surface or not. I would try cleaning them with the Stoner Tarminator. This is a powerful formula that basically dissolves tar. For some of the more deeply embedded contaminates you may need to polish them out with a metal polish like the P21S Finish Restorer.

To prevent this from happening again I would suggest applying 1 - 2 coats of the Poorboy's World Wheel Sealant. This sealant helps provide a protective barrier between your wheels and contaminates like high temperature brake dust. This makes future cleaning much easier and helps prevent deeply embedded build-ups.
