I had some bodywork done on my Z a little over 2 weeks ago. I told them when I picked it up I was planning a "detail day" for my car. He said since it was two weeks after it was painted it would be fine. I detailed it yesterday, no problems.

The rule of thumb is 30-90 days, but contact the bodyshop and see what they recommend. Each bodyshop uses different brands of paint so they will recommend different curing times.

When a vehicle is refinished at a body shop, the new painted areas need time to fully cure before a sealant can be applied. This time allows the solvents from the paint to evaporate from the surface and allow the paint to harden. Most paint manufactures recommend between 30 and 60 days drying time before waxing. However, a wax free hand glaze may be used on these surfaces since these products do not prevent solvents from evaporating.

You can use polishes fairly soon after, like a week or less...but wait 2-3 months before trying to use glazes, sealants, or waxes.

If you're supposed to wait so long after getting paint work done, then why did the shop who painted my car say it was ok for me to do the Megs. 3 step process on my car alittle over 2 weeks after it was painted? I did, and I don't see anything wrong with the paint. I assume that if I was going to notice any problems I would have by now as it has been a week since I did it, right?
