Default Spider Marks or scratches

I have one of the stillen car covers and have used it pretty much every day since I bought it in July. A couple of days ago while I was filling up the gas tank and it was sunny outside, I noticed a lot of spider marks or scratches on the top of the car. I think that they are called spider marks. There might be more marks but I did not see any at the time. I was really pissed and have not used the cover since. Is there anything I can do to treat them or try to cover the scratches? Will they hurt the paint or just dont worry about them? Also, is there another cover that does not scratch the paint or something that I can put on the top before putting the cover back on? Thanks for you suggestions.

They are called swirl marks or spider webbing. You will get them (to a degree) no matter how careful you are. What probably happened was either you created them while washing/waxing with an abrasive towel (believe me it doesn't take much) or the car had some dust on it and the cover did it.

No biggie though. There are several swirl mark fillers out there. I recommend Zaino Z-5. It does a pretty good job of filling them in.

Thanks Dr. Bonz for the info. I will try that as soon as I can get some. I guess the only place to get that would be on their website correct? Again Thanks.

No, there are Zaino distributors such as myself all over the country, I am 10 min. from the KY border in TN, where are you located in KY?

You will have to get more than just Z-5, you will need either Z-1 or ZFX to go with the Z-5 and I highly recommend using the Z-6 also.

Before you do all of the polishing, you might want to inpsect your towels and tell us what kind of towels you are using, if you get the Z-5 but continue to use the improper toweling and wash mits, the Z-5 will be a complete waste of time and money.

You may also want to use a swirl mark REMOVER polish first as in the 3M Swirl Mark remover part number 39009. Z-5 is a filler, NOT a remover.

BTW, when you put the cover on, did you ever put the cover on a dusty car? if so, that causes lots of spider markings. Also washing with a sponge or polyester wash mit is a big cause of spider marks.

I went to college in Martin Tn. I live in Paducah Ky. I am using one of the wash sponges with the white cloth on the outside just like one of those hand mits. But I have been using the same one for the whole car, top and bottom. Probably not a good idea. I probably put it with some dust on it. I usually put it on at night so there is probably some dirt or dust. I have one of those california dusters. I probably should use that every night before I put it on. But if you are not far from me that would help out a lot. Just let me know. Thanks.

I graduated from UTM in 1989, currently I work in Union City, TN, we are about 50 miles apart. I can bring all my stuff you need up here to work and meet you if you ever come to Union City, or meet you say in Fulton, KY sometime.

You will want to dust the car with the Cal Car duster before you put on the car cover, if you cover it right after you drive it, it will have road dust on it and grind into the paint between the paint and the cover.

There are plenty of products out there to fill in your swirls, but if you want to remove the swirls, use Menzerna. Checkout CMA at properautocare.com and look under Problem Solving. You'll see lots of links there for different problems. One is Removing Swirls.
