Default Porter Cable Question

Im planning on ordering a porter cable, and just have a few questions that probably could be found in a search, but alas, it doesnt work. I have superblack, so a few swirls, but a few coats of Z5 already on it. I mainly want the PC to apply and remove zaino wax. I plan on ordering the PC7274, velcro backing plate, and some microfiber buffing pads. Is there anything else?
Thanks

Extension cord?

I've owned this polisher for a year now...similiar model made by Porter Cable but with the Meguiars logo.

I really love the microfiber buffing pads, but only for removing product. You may want to try a foam pad for applying, or stick to hand applications...obviously your preference.

Meguiars and Griots Garage have a good selection of pads.

I LOVE my Porter Cable 7424. It made a NIGHT AND DAY differance on my car. Made the thing look better then when I picked it up off the lot.

I use it with my Blue Coral Product X which is basically a swirl mark filler/polish and if enough layers buid up it acts as a wax as well according to my detail guy. So I put a layer on every single time I clean the car ( Once a week )

I tried Zaino before I got my buffer and did not like it compared to my Product X, with I am going to try Zaino again maybe next time I detail the car.

But in the end, I would buy this buffer 10 times over for the wonderful results that I got.

Also, I ordered my buffer with a pad kit that came with 2 extra white pads, a yellow pad, a black pad, a lambs wool pad, and two micro fiber pads.

I run the Porter Cable model 7336 sold at Lowes for 109.00 every day and I get my foam pads from www.topoftheline.com , I use the Lake Country MFG pads and velcro backer plate. Top has MF pads also if you want them.....http://www.topoftheline.com/polisherpads.html

I'm not sure, but Kevin should be able to tell you the difference.

All I know is I love my 7424 and it works magic on black cars.

Actually not an hour goes by without me thinking of detailing my car, of my Product X ( just ordered a whole gallon of it ), and of my buffer.

Like I said, the buffer is the first thing I should have gotten and is my best "mod" to date.

The Porter Cable 7424 and 7336 is the exact same unit except the 7424 comes factory equipped with the 5 inch pad counter weight while the 7336 comes from the factory with a 6 inch backer pad counter weight. Porter Cable says if you run a 6 inch backer plate you should run the 6 inch counter weight, some guys do and some guys dont ever change out the 5 inch. I just bought the 7336 for these reasons: 1. Lowes had it, drove down from work, bought it, done deal.. and 2. I already knew I was going to purchase the 6 inch velcro backer plate from www.topoftheline.com to attach the 7.5 inch foam Lake Country MFG pads......................

This is a little more in depth:

Hey Kevin, will the 7.5 inch pads fit on my "stock" 7424? I would like to do this for one reason only, for more protection from the velcro backer plate and the paint.

It is 6 inch.

It looks like the pad extends around the backer plate protecting the edges of the plate form being able to touch anything.

Do you see what I am saying or am I being stupid?

Yes, 3/4 over hang on each side, the plate will never touch the paint.......

So my question is, will those 7.5 inch pads that you use fit my 6 inch plate? It seems they would because the actual flat, velcro area looks to be 6 inch while you get the extra 1.5 from the overhang.

someone else said its not worth it to apply Z2 or Z5 with a PC. The main reason i bought it was to make the waxing easier and also making buffing it off easier as well. So do you think its fine to apply zaino to the Z that already has about 7 coats on it already, or should i only use it for buffing the wax off. I know it might use alittle more polish, but that doesnt really bother me. What are your thoughts.
