my buddy just ran his maxima sunday at the track...times are as follow ....
NA 2002 Maxima goes 12.859 @ 108.00
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Today, February 06, 2005 at 2:49pm I made the pass. It was at Rockingham Dragway and was also my first pass of the day. Because this was opening day it was crowded and I didn't get many runs in before I called it quits to come home watch the SuperBowl.
I will post a video and a timeslip later today or tomorrow.
Here are the following runs
edit: I think .400 is perfect right now at Rockingham. I had a better R/T than everyone that lined up beside me.
Left Lane
R/T........ .409
60'........ 1.947
330'...... .000 ??? <~~~
1/8 ...... 8.322
MPH...... 85.98
1000'.... 10.779
1/4...... 12.859
MPH..... 108.00
The temperature on this pass was approx. 65º F. I still spun through most of first gear after launching at 4000rpm. That 60' still isn't as good as I need it to be.
Second Pass:
Right Lane
R/T........ .418
60'........ 2.368 <~~~ Too much VHT and possibly water at the line. First gear just lit up and I had to prematurely go to second.
330'...... 6.278
1/8 ...... 9.283
MPH...... 83.34
1000'.... 11.817
1/4...... 13.946
MPH..... 105.59
Third and final pass
Right Lane (I try again to backup the first pass)
R/T........ .575
60'........ 2.022
330'...... 5.597
1/8 ...... 8.485
MPH...... 86.28
1000'.... 10.958
1/4...... 13.048
MPH..... 107.37
The third pass I felt was better than my first but the clock dissagrees. Being one tenth off on the 60' really kills the E.T.
My mod list is as follows:
Modified Intake Manifold
Apexi SAFC-2 (Tuned only to 6600)
Unorthodox Racing Underdrive Pulley
Cattman Headers
Custom intake
Hollow/Sleeved OE Cat.
Warpspeed B pipe
HKS Rear section
17º Base ignition timing
TS L-Spec ECU with a 7500rpm rev limit
ARP Rod bolts
14 pound dry cell battery
No A/C
Power Steering bypassed
Mickey Thompson 26x11.5 E.T Steets. Mounted on
15x7 Kosei K1 wheels (18psi)
Nitto 555 245/45-17 in the rear mounted on
5zigen FN01R-C? 17x8 wheels (40psi)
1/4 tank of Citgo 93 octane gasoline
The, driver in car, race weight should have been very close to 3150 pounds
So there you have it folks. It should only get better from here once I get the 60' marks down.

I read the whole thread and I am very suspicious of his intake modification.
108 m.p.h. with those mods alone seems highly unlikely, and he doesn't want to show whats been done. I am not buying the fact that he doesn't want to give up his secret intake mod.
I would have to see his motor in person to believe that was without nitrous.

you can believe what you want...it doesnt matter to me...and im sure it doesnt to him either...he is however VERY credible in maxima.org....oh and by the way when he WAS spraying his mph was a bit higher...and he is probobly the best vq mechanic youll ever meet....
he doesnt want to give details of his manifold mod because he doesnt want someone stealing the idea and getting paid for it while he gets nothing

When he gets a patent and starts selling his product, and the results are repeated, then I will surely believe.
I am not saying he didn't do it, but its very hard to believe that kind of number from those mods.
I have been around maxima.org for a long time as well, and I am very familiar with the 4th, 5th and even 6th gen Maxima.
Making 108 m.p.h. with those limited bolt ons is very hard to believe. Its not a personal issue, as you are trying to make it out to be, just an issue of modification potential.
I hope he does have some wonder product in the works, as this would be an incredible modification for a n/a bolt on.

I am very familiar with the performance potential of the VQ, and have actually owned two Maxima SE's.
Maybe a track day is in order, in March. I will be arranging another meet in March, and if he is willing to drive to middle Georgia, it would be great to have him at the event.
The meet will be mostly GTO's, GTP's, and hopefully a few 350Z's and Maxima's, as I posted the last one in 4 forums, with the GTO guys showing the biggest turn out.
If he is indeed making 108 m.p.h, that is very impressive, and I would love to see it!
Nice. Checkout the love.
I finally finished producing the video.
Video is here <~~ Right click and save as.
The majority of the people on Maxima.org knew it would only be a matter of time before I did this. I know there will always be some doubters and that is ok. Feel free to drive upto Charlotte and I will take you for a ride in the car if you want.

I still can't believe they havent fixed that left lane 330' reader. It's been broken for a year now. How's it hooking this year, I haven't been able to get out there yet and its usually pretty slick.
Ohh and congrats on the run.

The track still sucks. On my other two runs the 330' mark worked fine. But in the video the display was messed up because it showed a 106 insted of a 108 which was on my timeslip.
Yeah their stuff is always messed up. Darlington is slightly farther (Not much) but it may be worth the trip. I'll have to see for myself sometime weather Darlington hooks better than The Rock or not. I've been told by several that it is much better but I kinda need to feel that one for myself.
Nope, Unfortunantly my car is down for a major transmission overhaul. Should be back up in mid march If all goes according to plan. That typically keeps me away from the track for the mean time unless some of my friends are going.
I've heard Nam is a pretty good track. It sure is far away though. That would have to be one heck of an occasion or something for me to go over there

As hard as it is to believe for an all motor Maxima its true. I know if I didn't know him personally I would probably think it was BS especially after my years of drag racing. BUT I've driven the car, and videoed the footage and all I can say is if he put the DP kit back on the car it would run deep into the 11's and be well into the 12xmph range. Remember Matt was running a dry nitrous setup on the VQ35 before any intakes where even available so hes definately a Pioneer and DIY'er. FYI the nitrous setup was not on the car at all for these runs, I think its been in the garage for the last 2 years it seems.
