Default Low trap speed

Hmmmmmm my best run to this date in the state of HAWAII is a 14.3 @ 94.58 MPH....... My question is does spinning out 1st and 2nd gear manipulate your trap speed a lot???? Im just curious because of all the mods I have I know the car should be way faster than this trapping atleast 102.00 compared to others with simular mod's ....and in Florida I ran faster than this before I added my 3.9 gears, TS flash, Flywheel, plenum and 275-40-18 tires....

Im ordering a set of 295-35-18 BF Drag radials....with new SSR rims this week... hope its the solution to fixing my 60ft times....

Oh and a new air filter cause i think the one i have now is bad....

Input?????

I always have a low trap speed. Not quite as low as yours, but 98 is really common for me. The car hit 100 once with a 13.903 ET. It hits 14.0's all the time with the mods below, but I have never hooked up very well. Still playing with tire pressure etc.

whats the name of your dragstrip? you may be a victim of a high density altitude or just plain high elevation...my car would be a low 14 sec car in colorado on street tires

Hawaii Raceway Park....... Elevation is not that bad but ive found the track is on an incline and is seldom prepared very well.....

Tire spin + bad track = low speed...........

Ill be back in Florida in 3 years.....

Loss of traction can actually result in higher traps speeds than runs where you hooked up extremely well. Generally you will lose a little trap speed with a great ET, which is a result of good traction. With a high ET, you can often see the same or higher trap speeds.

I suspect that the change of your gearing may play into this equation as well. With some setups, gearing can lower your ET and trap speed at the same time. So in a sense you will be quicker through the 1/4 but slower in speed. How good you launch is can determing how low your speed is.

I have run 13.0's @ 106 and 13.0's @ 111. The only difference between the two was on the 13.0 @ 106 I actually hooked up with less power and trapped lower. On the 13.0 @ 111 pass, I had very little traction and spun pretty badly, but had a bit more power.

Our track here is slower than mainland tracks. People usually trap 2-5 mph lower and have anywhere from .2 to .5 slower ET's here. I think you are the first 350Z I have known of that hit the drag strip. The only nights the track is prepped well is for Pro gas and races like the Fastest Street Car shootout this weekend. Its the best time to run.

yea my car ran pretty slow hear at raceway park hawaii too..

with 299 rwhp and 309 rwt in a bone stock auto C5 i should have been running 13.1 at 106 mph. My rwhp is about 10 higher than a typical auto c5..

istead the best Icould do was 13.5's at 103 mph. I once ran a 104.5 mph trap but it's only because I let the car kool down for three hours at the track while my wife and I watched a movie. After 2-3 quick runs she was back to her normal 102-103 mph.

+1. Agree. Humidity in July and August in Baltimore is terrible. At 80 percent plus, the staging pad is like a slip-and-slide. During that time, I’m happy if I can trap 100.0 mph.
