a properly tuned nitrous kit will get you in the 12's consistantly for a very reasonable price. with an intake ( ) on mickey thompson cheater slicks i ran 12.8's (75 shot)
i've since bettered that time, but i've put a lot more $$ into it also.

you can get a well equipped nitrous setup for around 1k. ie. efi kit, heater, purge, plugs. plan on spending around 2k total if you want a remote opener and safety features like a fuel pressure gauge, rpm switch and a wideband a/f gauge.

then there's the install. but thats fairly easy so you can do it on your own and save a lot of $$.

I agree Nitrous when used and installed properly is very safe. I just don't like the maintenance involved.

Bottomline is there are quite a few options out there for you.
turbonetics should be out because single turbos on a Z will never receive a CARB EO because of the need to relocated the Cats (it's a great kit from what I hear but not if you wanna be legal)
APS spent over 40k so far to get their CARB EO and will get it even though it'll most likely be a while same as JWT
Stillen + nitrous is a good option
Vortech...well, I'm not a fan based on what I read but it's CARB'ed

Good luck

i actually like the vortech alot better than the stillen+nitrous. the stillen just isn't making enough power for me and most people with the vortech are over 400hp which would be great for me. but if aps is on the way to becoming carb certified then i will hold off awhile and see what develops. thanks for all the help guys.

ps. is it for sure that vortech is carb'ed?

1) Nitrous kicks *** and is very safe when used correctly.

2) I did not know they have CARB regulations in Alaska....damn....I didn't even know you could drive a Z in Alaska with all those drunks around (never seen so many bars and and drunken people during the day....)

alaska has extremely laxed emmision standards, and if you fail you get a "seasonal waiver" and can drive the car like 6 months out of the year (summer months) The reason that carb leagl is so important is b/c i enlisted in the marines and will very likely end up in california at some point and dont want to deal with demodding or anything (requested cali b/c my brother is stationed there)

alot of people i know use nitrous and i have never really known anyone to blow u from it BUT it still scares the **** outta me... i would need to become ALOT more educated on it and have someone else rig it up for me just to be sure!

as for the drunkin native alaskans running around... yeah... we all hate em! thats about all there is to do in alaska in the winter tho if your not into snow, drink in the eternal darkness... and i definately wouldn't have purchased the Z if i wasn't going to move, you just can't drive em enough to justify the cost (thats why i got rid of my cobra)

stillen+nitrous is looking like the route for me...... or maybe i will buy some wheels and suspension stuff until the TT gets its carb approval?

I believe you don't have to worry about CARB if your car is registerd out of state.

in terms of the fear of nitrous...there's a lot of reading on here that will educate you on it.
