Default Low trap 5AT

Looking through my slips I have only gone over 100 mph once the ( 2 seasons of drags) average is 98 mph. These two runs were with drag radials. this is the first time on this car and I have turned these times on Pilot Sports after I heated them up. The one difference I can see is that with street tires I had an average of 1.5 mph greater trap.

I only had two practice runs and didn't have anywhere near the right tire pressure, but I like to win these things so I went with the highest practace time and knocked .05 off that for dial in.

I'm #88

I have Borla, JWT intake and 1/4" spacer running 3.5 gears. And the car weighs 3360 stripped for racing.

I think I know some of the reason, but would like to hear what you guys think.
BTW:Those reaction times suck. First time back to the track since last season. I usually like to see a .0 something R/T.

What elevation are you at? I did 13.8@100 stock in cool weather. I have a 03 Z auto.

Weight: I weighed my car two weeks ago at 3,060 pounds.

Exhaust mods: In the second 660 feet, the car is picking up less than 20mph. Consider headers, test pipes. Get the exhaust out of the engine more efficiently for better horsepower.

Winning two rounds of eliminations: nice driving.

Thanks David!

I have noticed with the local Z's that test pipes make a huge difference. I think a re-flash and pulley would also make huge difference and then the weight. Damn, I'm packing 300 lbs more than you. It is 3360# in drag race ready form. I suspected it was a fat pig so I weighed it a month ago. Spare out hardly any gas even the owners manual out.

I had three smily faces as they call them that night, but the other one I put the brakes on to make sure I didn't break out. that is the only way I know of to "sandbag". if I know I have them, I coast or put on the brake depending how far they are behind before going over the finish line.

I was lucky enough to have the winningest Z at Infineon last year. ended up first in the Z Car Garage Drag Challenge. That is where I got these drag radials. They were for the most kills (smily faces) by a Z (any year) over the season. Extra points for winning overall, runner up and finalist (last 4 cars) usually 300 cars entered. I race in Street (v8's) or sport Street (4-6 cylinders) depending on how I feel. The sport Street is the most competitive and has the most cars entered overall.

I also am running pretty rich after a night of racing.

Wow, i weigh 300 more pounds than you do also. I weighed in at exactly 3360 sitting in my vehicle. Almost no gas all tire items out.
I've trapped 104 before on streets.
I think you trap higher on streets due to less contact area and probably smaller Dia tire?
Both 17" or 18" rims?

depends on the alitude of the track that going to depend on how fast you are running. i used to run at california speedway last year and couldnt break 100 stock and it was at 2200 feet . was trapping about 98.73 with a 14.3 qm

With me in the car it weighs 3535# I ran 14.2 with a passenger Weds but I'm not about to ask her how much she weighed. My guess is 120 though. she is 5'7' or so. I had a better trap speed. 97 mph. I had street tires on.

What does the gain in mph between the 1/8 and 1/4 mile tell you about your car? I usually gain 22-23 mph.

How hard your car is pulling top end. Most stock Z's do 20-21mph mod'd NA Z's between 21-23mph. Properly running turbo Z's pick up 25-27mph mph the 2nd 1/8 mile. What it tells me along with 1/8 E.T. and speed is how fast the driver is shifting into 4th/maybe 5th if FI and fast the 2nd 1/8 mile. The first 1/8 tells me how good your launching and how good or bad you shift from 1-2 and 2-3 depending on you r60ft to 1/8 ET relation.

Edit-the above is for 6MT Z's if you have an auto then its just telling me how good your top end is that day.

The first 660 feet tell me about my technique. I have the start plus two shifts (first to second and second to third) to screw-up. The second 660 feet tell me about the car. I only have one easy shift(third to forth). Sometimes I pick up 19 mph. Sometimes 23.

I have a 5AT and I have tons of low end grunt. (the car dynoed 248 rwt stock, don't know what it is now with minor mods) I'm cutting decent 60" even with street tires. My theory is that I need a reflash. It appears the ECU is telling the engine to run richer in third and fourth. I'm an old school drag racer, so I don't have all this electronic crap down yet. the other thing I have not been able to do is have a good test and tune day where I can change shift points. I may be running it out too far in third. It feels good though. Once i get my 2-3 runs I concentrate on consistantancy over ET, since I like to win these bracket races.

My background is in pushrod cars, so I'm still learning the ins and outs of the Z. Everything from the camber on out.
