Default JWT TT 1320' Times

Hey Everyone,

I just want to share my experience running my Z at the local 1/4 mile strip.

Location: Lebanon Valley Dragway, West Lebanon, NY. Elevation: ~600ft.
Date/Time/Weather: Friday, July 7th, 2006 (9am-2pm), Temps from 65F to 82F, humidity: 60%.

Drag Day! 22 runs total! Beat the LIVING **** out of the car. Here are my times: (sorry no scanner or camera)

Judging from my timeslips, I have a LONG ways to go to get consistent 1.7 60' launches.

I know this car is capable of a 12.1 or 12.2 pass--it's just a matter of getting better at launching.

I ran on Nitto 555Rs (275 40 R17) on Cobra-R rims. Stock camber. (complaint: After 22 runs, no tread on inside of tire, 90% tread on outer edges.) Fix: Adjustable camber for next season. NEED MORE TRACTION.

Anyways, all this is done on a JWT TT kit (base map of 6.8psi), Tilton double plated cerametallic clutch, 8lb flywheel, Injen SES exhaust, test pipes. (Dynoed at 384 whp / 338 tq). Stock injectors, JWT FMU.

Each run, I was sure to heat the Nittos up real well, but it still proved difficult as I would a.) spin like a mad-man, or b.) launch at 4500rpms only to find myself bogging down to 3000rpms. I simply need more experience.

I'm thinking of going with some M/T E/T streets for next season. I like the fact that M/T says they BARELY need to be heated up to work properly and that they have a 00 tread wear rating, whereas the Nittos have a 150 tread wear rating.

I'm very happy with how well the car performed on this hot day at the track. It got about 3 minutes of rest in between runs. Sometimes, I'd come back to the staging lanes to find them EMPTY, so I'd hop right back on the track...It had 6,000 miles on it when I had Performance Motorsports install the kit, now it has 12,000 miles (barely broken in). I'm happy and can't wait for the next Test & Tune night!

Any other advice from the pros would be greatly appreciated.

Actually pretty decent 60ft times for running the Nittos..The MT dr's will cut your 6 ft to about a 1.7-1.68

Thats pretty decent for the amount of power and torque you are making. I'm sure you get in the lower 12's though with some extra practice.. GL next time

We ran the BFG's for a while, seemed to cut better 0ft's as well as snap an axle on the MT's...Both work well we just like the MT's a bit better

60ft's are decent, but your traps are a little low...good improvement over last time.

Alberto, I'm not sure how to improve my trap speed... 4th gear tops out at 112, so I'm either banging the rev limiter as I cross the line or frantically shifting into 5th hoping that the car still has time to accelerate before the line.

let me try to find a video of where I hit the rev limiter and i'll post it up.

if you're saying that my trap speed should be higher based upon my dyno results, then I might agree with you.

My first results were 399whp. I didn't agree, so I got a 2nd opinion. That 2nd opinion told me 384whp. Both were on Mustang dynos. I'd prefer to not have to have a third opinion, but I can believe that it would be under 384whp.

384whp on a Mustang dyno is well over 400whp on a dynojet. I hear ya on the 4-5 shift, it sucks, which is why I raised my rev limiter and rolled through the traps in 4th at 7000+rpm's. I wouldnt recommend it though. All I can say is practice practice practice, you are improving.

go with a little taller tire out back and you should be able to get around that if you want to end the 1/4 in 4th, or go smaller tire out back if you want to end it in 5th
just my 2 cents

hey cajun style, welcome to mine an albertos world, well 5 months ago i am assuming you have stock rev limit if you are only hitting 113 ish in 4th, i would raise your rev up to 7200, its safe and will give you a lot more mph in those extra 400 rpms....

After blowing my motor on a safe tune/setup-and running an upped limiter I cant help but wonder if that contributed to the failure-IMO DO NOT raise your limiter. Try running a 27" slick and you should be able to stay in 4th at stock redline, or shift into 5th a little earlier than redline so you can pull longer in it before the finish.

This is what I have been saying since day one..DON NOT raise the rev limiter on a stock motor F/I car.The rods are taking enough beating as it is running 2x's their designed HP levels, why would you want to make them spin faster on top of that? The extra cintrifical force exerted on the rods with just a few hundred RPMS extra is enough to snap a rod, or run a bearing out...This is not even considering the stress it puts on the valve train
I honestly can not believe other shops suggest and sell rev limiter increases on FI cars with stock motors.
IMO go for a larger/taller tire...

My shop recommended the same exact thing as you Alberto (and Julian). In fact, before they installed the kit in my car, they asked if I had the revup engine. Since their aim as a shop is to produce reliable F/I'ed Z/G, they said they would not install the kit on that particular engine and I believe it's simply because of the added stress at those higher RPMs.

I'm still setting up a 3.3 / 3.5 pumpkin swap with another member of the boards. I believe that will help me a lot.

+100 on sticking with the stock rev limiter. I'm at 10,000 miles of HARD driving and still no issues on the stock limiter. I wish there was a way for me to not have to shift into 5th down the 1/4...but I'm WELL into 5th by the line.

Looks like you dropped the clutch at too low of an rpm off the line...

i was launching at 5500-6000 on the stock clutch on nitrous with my slicks, i would step it up a bit, little bit of bog there...

cool videos though, man, it looks dead there, we get at least a hundred cars at our track every week....
